I traded some stuff (netbook/Powerbook G3 wallstreet II) for a 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4. The guy I got it from on craigslist wanted $370, so I struck on a deal with my room mate and he took my ideapad and Wallstreet II and bought me a used 12" 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4 w/ RAM maxed (1.25GB RAM), a 4x DVD-+RW, Airport/Bluetooth, 80GB HDD and a 64MB GeForceFX Go5200 video card. The battery is flat, and there is pitting on the wrist wrest, but for what I got it for, I can't complain. It's very nice, looks like it's been well cared for, screen is in perfect condition, and except for the battery and the wrist rest, it's in PERFECT condition. I bought a 160GB HDD (coming in today if it hasn't already) and a battery. HDD cost me $60 and the battery cost me $30. that was shipped btw.

I am on it right now, figured out how to pair my blackberry with it (it's not supposed to work on a mac, verizon refuses to release software to let the curve 8330 connect to the mac as far as tethering) and it works great on bluetooth.

I got pics of the machine here:

Whatcha all think?

That's a good score. Yeah, you can't go wrong with a 12" PB (I'm posting from one!). Mine has performed great since I got it in '04. Biggest two ordeals I had were an HD swap and a battery recall. It's starting to show its age with YouTube videos but it still puts out when doing useful work!

I've got the combo drive model of the 1.5GHz 12" Powerbook. Originally I had an 867MHz model and loved it so much, I went for the new one. Its remarkably better and 1.5GHz is still plenty of power for most anything I think. I use it all the time along with my TiBook as my MacBook Pro is my "desktop" system.

I put in the new 160GB HDD, and it's a breath of fresh air. I can't say that it's faster, but I can say I feel better looking at my system and having close to 122GB Free (which will be partially filled tonight when I get back to my desktop)

It took me about 45 minutes to do the swap of the HDD. It wasn't as bad as I would have thought, but it takes more care doing a component swap in an Apple PowerBook than it takes in say... a Gateway or an HP/Compaq.

I was really careful, and the laptop fits back together beautifully. if this is gonna be a permanent machine for me, I will get the wristrest/top replaced as it has those pitted marks. When i have my palms wresting on them, I don't feel them, but it's an eyesore to take out a laptop this nice and be scarred by the pockmarks that are on the left of the trackpad. Almos like someone took out a gray airbrush and did a quick spritz onto the metal, except it's the top layer that is coming off. Is it just silver paint, or is it actually metal under the silver? or is it plastic?

Just got the battery. Yay 5Hr battery life! To bad the battery doesn't fit right. It makes the laptop uneven... I think.... I think the case at the bottom may be bowed, but I am not sure. Anyways, fully functioning fast laptop = Awesome.
