Yeah, that's a good point but i sorta doubt it would be causing the random letters to be thrown up on the screen.

Well Eureka and all, it actually was the CD-ROM drive. I put the other one in and...problem solved. I guess the controller board on the drive is zapped. Odd how the door still works perfectly, even it uses a controller signal. Oh well, thanks fellas.

Actually, i don't think your friend is correct. I pulled the Apple 600i drive and the externals showed up perfectly. If the SCSI controller was shot, they wouldn't be showing up and accessible. It could be the drive by it's self, when it's gone other stuff works but i don't have another SCSI...
