Thanks for your reply. Do you think this could have been caused by the stick of ram? Is it just a coincidence? Is the iMac completely bricked or can I do something about it?
The issue still happens without the stick in the iMac, so I think it could be worse than that. The iMac has 512 megs of motherboard ram so it should run fine without any sticks of ram in it.
Good news! I got a 400W flex ATX psu and it semi-reliably works now! I occasionally lose video (though as of yet not when I'm doing something with the computer) but that is probably due to either the bad adapter I'm using to convert the atx pinout to the mdd pinout or the high temperature in my...
I recently tried upgrading the ram in my iMac G5 iSight 20" with a 1 gig stick of ddr2. The stick had a heatsink on it which I took off for my limited testing. After I put the ram in and turned on the computer, it beeped three times and showed no video. I think three beeps means a ram issue. I...
Thanks. I didn't check the eject motor at all and that's probably where the noise is coming from. I'll take a look at it when I next have time. The only other mac floppy drive I have is a dubious internal superdrive from a corroded classic, and I don't think those are compatible anyway. Memory...
Also, the contacts for the battery on the back of the mac are corroded (the battery has been removed). Could this have something to do with the problem?
Looking at the dead mac scrolls, page 66 seems like the closest problem to mine, except the problem in the dead mac scrolls has more of a white background than mine (on mine, the only white that can be seen is in the top right corner of the floppy icon, in the supplied diagram, the floppy icon...
I have a mac plus I'm working on and when turned on, it makes a loud banging noise. I cleaned and re lubricated the floppy drive and completely disassembled the computer, but it still makes the banging noise. I disconnected the floppy drive inside the computer and the noise stopped, so I think...
I'm trying to boot my powerbook g3 lombard 333mhz from an adelie install usb (the file I've written to the usb is "adelie-live-lxqt-ppc-1.0-beta6-20241223.iso" which seems to be the latest stable desktop iso) but so far, I've had no luck so far. I'm loosely following this guide: Boot Linux or...
It reliably booted with the 600W + Radeon 9000 at the start. I am pretty sure I can't get video with the pci card, pram reset and 600W. I am unsure whether the cpu is upgraded or not as the computer hasn't always been mine but it looks stock. A friend suggested that because the 500W PSU is...
I removed the radeon but still no video, even with the 600W PSU (the one that should work). The rage128 does get warm though. I haven't tested it before though and don't have another Mac to test it with so I don't know if it works. My USB pci card also seems not to have any power, or at least...
I just tried plugging the rage 128 into a monitor with vga (that I know works perfectly fine with other computers) but still no video from the mdd. I have noticed, however, that the radeon 9000 gets a bit warm when the computer is turned on, even though it's not outputting anything? There also...
so I have just checked all the PSUs and they're pretty much all the same voltage-wise:
except the 600W one (the one that works) has an extra +12V listed?
I found an image of the dc output for the acbel supply and it has the same voltages as the image you posted and is 360W so I guess I had a...
Thanks for the reply! I think I had the 400W acbel PSU. I'll try to check to make sure my PSUs conform tomorrow. Just to confirm, it is exactly the same with the 350W and the 500W PSUs (it chimes and the power button and mobo lights turn on but no video). Again, thank you so much for the reply...
