    Internet Radio!

During #Marcintosh 2025, I was live broadcasting a RealAudio server with on-demand content, plus live streams of 3 separate sources: two vintage iPods, and one iPhone SE 2015 playing internet radio. Each source was encoded in 3 different bitrates: 14.4kbps Mono, 28.8kbps Mono, and 80kbps...

Apps that support video capture from the "Wings" AV Personality Card (820-0971-A) for PowerMac G3 Beige?

Does the personality card require a video source to be plugged in before the source is exposed in software? Or am I just missing an extension? I also have a Connectix (Logitech) QuickCam VC Color USB installed. The video capture apps can see the webcam just fine.

Apps that support video capture from the "Wings" AV Personality Card (820-0971-A) for PowerMac G3 Beige?

Hi all, There was an absurdly-priced eBay listing for this card ($170). After waiting two months, I finally talked the seller down to $55, which is a lot closer to what examples have sold for in the last 12 months (between $40-80). What are some OS 8-9 apps that support video capture from...

Mac SE: system error when sound plays on very old games (but Mac is not frozen)

I have a Macintosh SE FDHD and am attempting to play some older games off the floppy disks. The built-in 40 MB hard drive has System 7.1, but I can also boot from a floppy disk. One game that works perfectly is The Fool's Errand, which comes on two disks. The Game disk has a modified System...

Project: PowerMac 6100 HPV Riser + HPV VRAM

I have recently acquired a 6100 that came with an HPV and the metal shield, but the stock riser card is gone. I'm guessing the previous owner used a G3 accelerator. I got my own Sonnet Crescendo G3 233 MHz card for this computer. Technically it works, and the HPV card produces a fine...

Need an "I don't know jack" guide to Pi 3 and Netatalk/CUPS

I appreciate this! Thanks! Even if it's a breaking change, it's a good one. I wonder if these guys ever figured out what was wrong with their papd.conf file 25 years ago.

Need an "I don't know jack" guide to Pi 3 and Netatalk/CUPS

Well, that was quick. I got a response from the developer already:

Need an "I don't know jack" guide to Pi 3 and Netatalk/CUPS

Update: yes, I have determined that papd fails to start if the printer name is longer than 31 characters. At least in this case it gives a somewhat-helpful error that the printer could not be published. I'm going to file an issue on the netatalk github describing the unusual behavior, and ask...

Need an "I don't know jack" guide to Pi 3 and Netatalk/CUPS

The auto-generated name combines the printer description and the hostname. In my case, that was "O Brother Where Art Thou pihole" which was too long. In the Chooser window, this caused the text to be compressed. Does papd truncate print queue names to 31 characters? They have to be short...

Need an "I don't know jack" guide to Pi 3 and Netatalk/CUPS

Thanks. I'd tried that earlier and it wrote the following: papd: Set syslog logging to level: debug papd: restart (4.2.0dev) papd: CUPS support enabled (2.4) Bad termcap entry Bad papcap entry The error "bad termcap entry" shows up in many searches relating to things other than PAPD. The...

Need an "I don't know jack" guide to Pi 3 and Netatalk/CUPS

I'm pulling my hair out over here trying to expose my printer to AppleTalk. It worked exactly once with the cupsautoadd parameter ... but I wanted to customize the way the printer name appears in Chooser. So I tried adjusting the papd.conf file according to the manual, and now papd absolutely...

    HDI-45 to VGA DIY attempt

Bumping this thread, as the original pictures have disappeared and the two websites linked in the post have also vanished. Does anyone have backups of the images, or another post where someone attempted the same?

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh LC III Logicboard

Bumping this thread to say: this is amazing work. And also to ask: is there a schematic for the LC III in a PDF format? I'm doing the recap, and need to check where C5 and C7 go. The contact pads delaminated unexpectedly while cleaning and wicking them.

LCIII Recap - Apple design fault -47uF reversed!

Bumping this thread for 2025. I'm doing my LC III now, and of course the three PSU capacitors had turned to dust lol. Here is a photo of C22 installed "correctly" so as not to explode.

Under System 6, DaynaPORT Installer kept asking me to insert ... itself.

I had a strange issue tonight trying to install the DaynaPORT SCSI/Link drivers to use with a BlueSCSI + PicoW on a Macintosh SE. The internal hard drive has System 7.1, but I also have a 6.0.8 volume on the BlueSCSI. Booting the SE from the 6.0.8 volume, I added the DaynaPORT 7.5.3...

    FloppyEMU HD20.dsk issues on SE

FloppyEmu owner here, reporting in with the same "Read State Changed 2" error on a Macintosh SE FDHD that has an accelerator card installed. It's not an original MicroMac, but rather a new reproduction PDS card made by MacEffects that is emulating a 68030 @ 25MHz. I can boot the SE FDHD and...

Running / compiling Mini vMac for Macintosh SE FDHD?

I have a real Macintosh SE FDHD that boots and runs just fine. I have successfully used CopyRoms to dump the 256 KB ROM file to a floppy disk and have copied this back to the host Mac that's going to run mini vMac. The standard version of Mini vMac was compiled for a Macintosh Plus, and...

Wrapped / sheathed 20-pin IDC ribbon cables? Easy or tedious DIY?

Aha! I had a feeling that was why these cables cost $50 instead of $5.
