Changing the default window size in SimpleText

As a (highly irrelevant) aside, and to properly answer your first question ;):) — during the past weeks, in anticipation for a possible solution, I've taken screenshots of the windows I've resized, and overlapped the outlines to find the golden average :) Turns out that my very personal...

Changing the default window size in SimpleText

Oh, I didn't see your update before I posed my reply. Wonderful! :D I considered maybe giving it a try myself, so I'll definitely give it thorough read. Thanks for sharing the process!

Changing the default window size in SimpleText

Oh, wow! I'm not sure how you accomplished this, but this is far more than I had imagined or wished for! I'm using the Swedish version of SimpleText (just used the default version above for clarity), but I copied over CODE resource #1 ("Main") along with the TMPL and WSzT resources, and it...

Changing the default window size in SimpleText

Oh that's wonderful 🙌✨ Thanks a lot for having a look at it! 🙂 Have you been able to identify the routine that gets called when a TEXT document is opened? TEXT should be different from all the others in that it doesn't have a predefined size (and it's the only one I'm interested in changing)...

Changing the default window size in SimpleText

Haha, sorry to hear that! 😂 Glad to know I'm not the only one who notices it though 🙂

Changing the default window size in SimpleText

By the way, Mac OS 8/9 could also benefit from a slight adjustment: (Although the total lack of spacing doesn't stick out all that much among all the other things that broke visually post-System 7… 🤪)

Changing the default window size in SimpleText

If it could determined where in the program code the window size is defined, any size should be possible. But in general smaller :) Would have to try out and tweak the ultimate size for my needs 🙂

Changing the default window size in SimpleText

Anyone up for some reverse engineering? :) As some of you may know, I'm using my PowerBook 170 more or less daily (last time I checked, my usage clocked in at 4 h 18 min / day over the past year and a half which probably is more than I spend on my MacBook and phone combined :D) Anyway, being...

I built a ChatGPT client for Mac OS 9

Is Open Transport required? I only use the internet occasionally on my PowerBook these days and since I'm using the computer daily for other things, I switched to FreePPP/MacTCP because of its lower memory footprint. I'd be happy to test the new version when it's out

I built a ChatGPT client for Mac OS 9

Really cool! Amazing the number of modern services that get adapted to work on 68k Macs 😍 🙌 I tried it out on my PowerBook 170 (version 2.4) and while it runs, the interface – like much of the software from the Platinum days – doesn't render so well in black and white… Also, it gets stuck...

    Window size in word 5.1

For what it's worth, I just tried it on my PowerBook 170 running System 7.1.1, and here new documents don't fill the entire witdh of the screen, but rather what I assume is the original Mac's 512 px screen width. From what I recall, it has always been like that. Also, it does remember the size...

How do I get screenshots from System 7.5.5 into a usable format?

Surprising that you are unable to open it in other applications on the mac. I've never had any problem with that over the years. Are you running at an unusually high resolution and bit depth in combination with very little RAM? Perhaps you could try enabling virtual memory (or, preferably...

New to me PB180...it's dead Jim...

I’ve never heard of this being a problem, but I’m throwing it in here just in case. I’ve noticed on my PowerBook 170 that if any of the keys on the keyboard are pressed when the power button is pressed, nothing happens. Release the key and the computer starts up. I suppose, if any of the keys...

Adjusting levels in Photoshop changes both image brightness and desktop brightness

Adjusting levels in Photoshop changes both image brightness and desktop brightness

I think we need to give you a small award for sticking to describing it as a problem 🙌😄;) But in support of your view on it, it's a rather crude and far from ideal solution since you lose all onscreen references for the adjustment you make. Probably best to make the adjustments in fullscreen...

Adjusting levels in Photoshop changes both image brightness and desktop brightness

I don't know if you're convinced yet @capa150 :) but like @Phipli said, it's very much by design. It's incredibly helpful to see a live preview of the adjustments one makes, but in the early days of Photoshop, image calculations were fairly processor intensive. So simulating the adjustments by...

Can the PowerView driver be modified to support other resolutions?

I've had a Radius PowerView for many years. I've pretty much only used it once every two years or so, either when I've done maintenance or upgrades to my PowerBook 170 and needed to use the computer with the screen disconnected, or sometimes to play some old, nostalgic DOS games through...

    Sneak preview: TouchScroll cdev

Wow, that's really cool! I don't own a tablet, and pretty much only use emulation on the occasional moments when I need to try something out in color that doesn't work in OS 9 on my Quicksilver G4 (the only other Mac with support for classic Mac OS that I own, apart from my old Classic II, and...
