Oh and to answer your question, no, all my brother's stuff ended up on the App Store eventually, so - no guidelines broken.

I've heard plenty of bricking stories, so I'm not so sure about that. That's not my main concern though, as I agree it probably won't happen.

'Course it will - how else do you test your software? My brother had a whole lot of programs he'd written installed on his Touch well before they were on the app store. Anyway, that's a bummer. I'm not game to jailbreak it even if it is "safe" because I've had enough problems with it already.

My phone isn't jailbroken and I don't want to risk trying it...But, is it possible to download the source code for this app, compile it using the app development program, then install it straight onto a non-jailbroken phone - bypassing the app store??

He's also selling ones that are tested, so I think you can conclude that these ones don't work. Somehow it's become acceptable to sell non-working merchandise under the euphemism of "untested". Pretty common sorta practice in the used car yard that is eBay.

Sure does suck! I spent the best years of my youth trying to make games in that after buying it brand new for about $150. Never made a damn thing with it! Didn't help that it took 30 seconds to load every screen on my LC475 during game playback, thus making any kind of scrolling impossible.

I used to hate that little bugger too! If memory serves I think you can also drag it to a non-conspicuous place like in a folder somewhere. I'm glad they got rid of it. I dance on its grave. It was like Windows; forcing you to do everything its way.
