sooooo uh, this is on eBay, and it looks to be a normal digital audio or graphite G4. until you look at the pictures and see the motherboard has the 4pin power connector for the CPU and the extra screw post that provides 12V for QS cards.
if anyone here in...
curious, why are you going for 7.5(.3-5?) over 7.6.1? and this may be out of your scope but mac os 8.5 and 8.6 are almost completely PowerPC native and run much better on these machines.
i'm fairly certain the older powerbook displays didn't use LVDS or eDP (obviously), but rather an RGB TTL interface. i forgot exactly how it works on these but chances are you'd need to find a compatible panel based on how your original panel is laid out. yeah, sadly, no modern adapters exist...
did the apple software restore CD for the performa 550 seriously come with mario teaches typing??? thats hilarious. also some very interesting stuff, not sure if other apple computers have this (mainly performa i suppose). reminds me of those recovery partitions on windows machines from the...
very nice work. i always feel like the 1995-later macs with SMD caps are overlooked, but they are getting close to 30 years old for the old world machines especially. they do leak less but the seals can always have a chance of failing after so many years
a little off topic, have you ever figured out how the death chime works on these? i know its not PCM but the PCM ones ive always found thru raw data input in audacity. these i know do it differently with a sequenced startup, crash, and simple beep sound, likely from the ASC (though it sounds...
what specific computer is having issues and do you have a picture of the board? there are plenty of G3 models, spanning different times in technological advancements.
so far i havent found anything about other chip sizes. theoretically it may be possible to get the pinout of these chips and make an interposer for other chips that can be adapted, so long as it is able to have the same amount of addresses... which i am not too sure about. i know you can't go...
guess what. i found a working 32mb 168pin DIMM in my 6400 that i'm replacing with 2 64MB DIMMs soon and they use the same type of chip packaging. and the same amount of chips. i'll get back when i finish up the mod; already managed to get half of the chips and the other capacitors populated.
ahhh, i see. yes that would make more sense. and there is of course the onboard memory on the 6400, which is only 8MB. now i am curious about upgrading that to something larger... hehe
submitted a $20 each offer for two DIMMs (total $40 before tax) and now i await the response. not the prices i wish for but better than $60 or something. i need new RAM in this machine.
do you have the exact model number of the stick used? couldve been 4k/8k refresh but i'm not so sure 128MB...
i had no idea these even existed... now i wanna get one considering my S/O bought me a 5.25 drive (that is kinda dicey, needs a full recap soon) and a bunch of 1.2MB floppies... lmao. she's such an angel. but i take it, these are only 360k?
if anyone has interest in modding ram cards for the powerbook 500 series... the kta-pb500 cards can be very upgrade-able if you track down the right memory chips and compare how the different variants have their jumper resistors (0 ohms) set. i should probably do more research on these, because...
hello, i'm rather curious about your all's experience with 168pin EDO DIMMs, and what upgrades people have made to the RAM in the powermac 6400. i would love to get 264MB of RAM (2x 128MB plus the 8mb onboard). apparently the 6400 supports 1k or 2k refresh, and the service manual specifically...
just performed the mod... feeling lucky enough to leave my 6400/180's 180mhz 603ev at 225mhz (have not tested yet) even though i'll be using an upgrade card... also, i should ask... has anyone looked into modifying the memory slots to take 3.3v sdram? not sure if the pinout is much different but...
