Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

Last post on this thread: the SE/30 is all fixed! Bad fuse on F1 was keeping the ADB from working. I jumped it and everything now works. New poly fuses ordered to replace jumpers. Another SE/30 saved! :)

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

F1 has no continuity, so the ADB is not getting any juice! I presume it's ok to jump F1 for testing purposes until I can get a replacement component?

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

and we have boot! floppy drive works (int and ext) and SCSI works (int and ext). now I've got an ADB issue. mouse only goes up and down and click registers. no horizontal. when the keyboard is unplugged. with keyboard plugged in, I get nothing. both ADB devices do work. starting to...

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

Update! New SWIM chip in...and...she posts! Need to test floppy and SCSI next and clean up all the damn flux I used on the board. But there you have it, if you see the error in the original post, it could be a bad SWIM chip.

What pins would you scope first on a simasimac SE/30 with no sound?

If you haven't already, get that SE/30 connected to your modern Mac/PC so you can troubleshoot through debug mode: https://recon-68k.github.io/

MT brand. At least I know the video RAM and subsystem is good thanks to the Recon app which runs tests against it. Well, assuming the Recon app is testing it thoroughly. Anyway, I'll know within a couple weeks when the new SWIM arrives and I can tack it into place.

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

Ordered a new SWIM and in prep, removed the old one from the SE/30 board today. without the SWIM, the SE/30 does the same thing so either (a) the SWIM is a red herring (I hope not) or (b) the SWIM was not functioning correctly and removing it demonstrates consistent behavior. can't wait for the...

Has anyone used AppleCAT for SE/30 diagnostics?

This software is AMAZING assuming your se/30 can get into debug mode. 2 cheap cables from Amazon and away you go!

Yep, that'll be the next step. I'm giving this one a rest for a bit and going to work on an Atari. :)

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

Wow, thanks! Ya, I'm pretty sure this is a bad SWIM. I'm getting simasimac and no chime (now that I know I have good RAM in there). Going to have to shelve this until I can find a battery bombed donor board with (maybe) a working SWIM or a free range SWIM that I can replace this with.

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

Troubleshooting is a lot of false positives. :) The grey screen was an artifact from the video tests persisting after short reboots, so it was a red herring. With good SIMMs installed, the Reconnaissance app (https://recon-68k.github.io/) says everything is good except for SWIM. So I started...

I did not have a mouse plugged in. :(

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

ya, maybe. the SIMM sockets look good. every pin in bank A looks OK. I'm reflowing everything on this board just in case. lol

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

Cables arrived and with the use of the excellent Reconnaissance app (https://recon-68k.github.io/) I connected the SE/30's serial port to a 2019 Intel Mac's USB port and ran the suite of tests. A bunch of memory errors and a bad SWIM. Everything else checked-out OK, including all things video...

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

Ya, I'm going to check out the video ROM on the scope tomorrow. To connect the SE/30 to a modern PC/Mac via USB, I'll need to figure out all the cables and adapters to make it work. Does someone have handy-dandy links to those? :)

Yet another simasimac SE/30 giving me grief

Started working on an SE/30 that won't start-up normally. Here are the symptoms: Simasimac-looking image on boot Death chimes immediately at power on Interrupt button does nothing Reset button will re-play the death chimes but not reset the image I've done the following: Voltages tested at...

The Apple Lisa Inside an FPGA!

This is amazing and one of the most interesting FPGA projects around! I would definitely buy one if available as well. Mind simply blown.

It's probably better/cheaper/easier just to find an FDHD SE logic board.

Novel method for restoring original coloration of Compact Mac cases

More anecdotal information... A while back, I picked up a Color Classic that was yellowing and the previous owner had started "restoring the color" using a non-acetone nail polish. He would wipe it on with a cloth towel, then quickly remove it with a plastic cleaner. It did indeed "restore the...
