I’ll need to get this tested in another QS. The one I’ve built for myself is meant for OS 9 (GF 4600 Ti, 2x 1 GHz) and I know a single processor would be a better choice but this one seems like overkill any maybe better for paying for another Mac toy.
I picked up a Quicksilver after I spotted this CPU upgrade inside it.
No manufacturer or speed listed and spots for assembly number (Assy No) and serial number (S No.) are blank.
I haven't taken the heatsink off yet.
Unfortunately the Quicksilver doesn't seem to want to power on and I...
I've been picking up Atlona AT-DP400s (for the 27" Cinema Display) and AT-DP200s (for the 24" Cinema Display) as they turn up cheap on eBay. Cinema Displays are frequently on Facebook Marketplace around me, marked as anything from Apple monitors to Thunderbolt Displays to broken iMacs. I paid...
Elgato Video Capture small USB device captures standard definition composite and s-video with left and right RCA audio jacks. Supposedly works with iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC. Captures using H.264 encoder. I’ve never used one but I like Elgato’s products.
What hardware encoder are you testing?
I've got a Wired Digital Mediapress PCI card in my Quicksilver though I haven't used it in years. It will do realtime conversion when capturing from composite, s-video, or SDI (with a breakout cable). It will also transcode from multiple formats to MPEG-2...
More careful use of the heatgun and a metal lab spatula to separate the two layers of plastic around the edges before slowly peeling them apart.
Repeatedly stop and reheat as the plastic and glue cool and it becomes difficult to continue.
Below is a pic of a lid from an A1283 Intel Mini that...
I've been working on cleaning and upgrading a 1.42 GHz G4 Mac Mini (A1103) to make a OS 9 and 10.4 system.
We know the retrobright method doesn't work on Macs like the G4 Mini and eMac because the (formerly) white plastic is behind a clear acrylic layer and can't be touched by whatever version...
Never mind. Success with 10.4! Not sure what was wrong before.
Now to add AirPort and Bluetooth and figure out why it won’t recognize my white, wired Apple keyboard (Opt key would to select boot drive, disc eject key works at startup). I get a message that keyboard needs to be identified and...
@davecom I probably should have purchased the ATA to mini mSATA adapter you linked to but I ended up buying a different one by mistake.
I added a Kingston 1TB SSD. Do you know if there are problems with drives that large? My 10.4 DVD wasn't recognized and I thought my optical drive may be dead...
I've got a 1.42 GHz Mac Mini and am planning to set it up to dual boot OS 9 and 10.4 but I want to get all my parts together so I hopefully only have to open it once.
I'm going to test audio with a cheap USB to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter connected to decent powered speakers. I'm guessing a...
Oh yeah that's where I'm reading it.
I'm trying to focus on a PIII build first since I think that's going to be the most useful. I'd like to do a dual CPU build just because I've owned them before and still have some of SGI's unusual (and non- DOS, Win 9X, or XP compatible) multiprocessor x86...
I've been doing a lot of reading on 486 to Pentium III PCs to figure out how I want to build one or more systems for 90s-00s Windows 98 and DOS games.
I know, boo PCs but I've got tons of old Macs and no old PCs - and I didn't expect parts to be so expensive.
When forum contributors can stop...
Here's the Mac drives for the Targa 1000 and 2000 cards, Nubus and PCI versions. Let me know if this works for you.
EDIT: Seems like the .zip file is too large. Need to try again.
I should have this too. I saved CD-Rs of the Mac and Windows files from when I had the same card. I don't have access to a Mac at the moment and haven't found anything that will open the Mac CD. I'll try to get one set up in the next couple of days.
Thanks. I checked out the thread and it looks like I did actually see a spray can paint recommended but it’s not the platinum that I need. I don’t think I need the beige for anything but that Heavy Hammock looks really dark, at least on my screen.
I've got a 7100 and a 9500 That need some cosmetic work. I've had good luck retrobrighting Macs in the past and the plastics aren't too yellow on these systems. I'm going to go ahead with that assuming the 9500 doesn't crumble when I open it.
They do both have some scratches on the metal parts...
Update on my laser acquisitions. Laserjet 5M (14MB, 7K pages, network card), NEW duplexer, NEW 500-sheet tray, and real HP high-capacity toner cart. Total so far = $264 including all shipping. Haven't assembled it all yet (will do it after the move) but all in very-good to new shape. For...
