I really like some of these older Apple cables - they're thoughtfully designed.

Are PCI Powermacs hard to find now?

You wouldn’t have known it looked like a basket case from the photo, nice work.

    System Picker

I thought it needed to - at least between different partitions on the same drive? Many 68k Macs can only distinguish between SCSI ID for boot selection. It sees multiple partitions on the same ID as one volume and just it’ll boot off whichever System Folder it finds first.

12" PC Compatibility Card in a Beige G3

It’s the ‘Switch Power’ one, but I’ve tried a Raytheon. The problematic one was made by Royal Technology or something like that. They’re very rare though, I’ve never seen one.

12" PC Compatibility Card in a Beige G3

I moved the hard drive to the Beige G3 and all the same problems are still happening. So the cards work in a B/W G3, but not a Beige G3, with the exact same software configuration.

Macintosh II, Logic Board 820-0163-03 630-0140 SIM SIMM Memory Slot Connecter Replacements?

Excellent work. Removing those old SIMM sockets is one of the worst tasks I can think of - even once you think you’ve desoldered everything they just don’t want to come out. Some of the plastic sockets I’ve come across in SE/30s and the like are still very robust, so I wouldn’t automatically...

12" PC Compatibility Card in a Beige G3

No, I didn’t. (Yet) HFS+. But I am seeing corruption on reads and writes on DOS formatted floppy disks, so I don’t think it would be that. I haven’t come across it, but would be interested to read it. Anyway - I got one of these cards working correctly on a B/W G3 (loose logic board) running...

    Wiki Review: Capacitor Replacement

Yeah I'll happily contribute to this. I think broken out into separate pages would be better. Each machine might eventually have a cap list for a PSU and maybe an analog board, in addition to photos and diagrams. I like polymers, but they're a bit more expensive... and also for a lot of the...

12" PC Compatibility Card in a Beige G3

I'll have to move out of my bedroom and sleep in the under stairs cupboard. Wow, and the PC cards were probably more powerful than the host Mac :D

12" PC Compatibility Card in a Beige G3

Oh God! I mean yes I’d love one but also no! I don’t have room! And it’ll end up being a whole new ecosystem to maintain Please don’t 😂

Wouldn’t hurt to try, I suppose!

12" PC Compatibility Card in a Beige G3

I’ve tried everything obvious. Gone back to a bare bones stock system with original CPU and clocks and clean install of Mac OS 8.1 + v1.6.4 drivers. Also tried a different Beige G3 motherboard and an ATX PSU. Tried all three different ROM versions. Previous to this I’d tried Mac OS 9.2.2/9.0.4...

upgrading the ibook clamshell's L2 cache to 1MB

That’s interesting to know. There were two models of PowerBook G4 that used the 7455 - the 1GHz 17” Aluminium model and the 867/1Ghz TiBook. I wonder how they fared with that monster of a chip.

12" PC Compatibility Card in a Beige G3

Is anyone using a 12" PC Compatibility Card (the 100MHz Pentium one) in a Beige G3 successfully? If so, what combination of Mac OS and PCsetup software are you using?

upgrading the ibook clamshell's L2 cache to 1MB

Do 7447/8s run boiling hot like 7455s? I feel like a 7410 would be the absolute perfect sweet spot for a clamshell just based on how cool they run.
