    Exo68k/ExoPPC

Did you see this thread - Mac OS 8/9 launcher app just released: https://68kmla.org/bb/threads/new-application-for-mac-os-8-9.51285/#post-579143 An OS X launcher for Classic and later games would be good too. Only thing is many early OS X games are very incompatible with later releases so not...

Likely PSU rating for Novy 020/030 accelerator?

Thanks, that did it - added a Meanwell 5V 3A mini PSU and wired up similarly to RealityStorm's unit (active/brown to 240V power switch and neutral to transformer). It's working well, the Novy upgrade really is fun and triples the speed of the Plus. I discovered the issues I was having were not...

Were these machines always so painful? Maybe I'm misremembering, or maybe age hasn't been kind to them.

I don't think so, it appears you're trying to max the systems out all at once which leads to incompatibilities much like they acted when new. Presuming the systems were well stored, kept running periodically I'm yet to consider a recap on later PPC hardware - not saying it's not necessary, but...

Were these machines always so painful? Maybe I'm misremembering, or maybe age hasn't been kind to them.

That’s a lot o troubleshooting in one post - maybe suggest focusing on one at a time, deep cleaning of all checking caps voltages and testing each unit stripped down to basics and adding components one at a time. Also keep to standard software not hacks/parches/flashed cards see if you can get...

Likely PSU rating for Novy 020/030 accelerator?

Multimeter lacks ammeter, but I've the requisite 5V 3A Meanwell PSU in hand - looking at @Realitystorm 's PSU - why do you think the neutral wire goes to the transformer? I'm assuming the brown wire is "active/hot".

Pismo 900Mhz G3 upgrade - so it DID work!

No sorry - it was returned to the seller years ago

2 new Samsung Wallstreet 256MB memory modules, only showing 128MB each

The most compatible SDRAM So-DIMM modules for these were the double-height, single sided modules - have a look around for second-hand modules that look the part. It was very common for random brands to not work in the Wallstreet which is known to be quite picky with RAM.

Likely PSU rating for Novy 020/030 accelerator?

Thanks everyone and happy 2026! @Realitystorm you've read my mind, that was next question on how/where the PSU was wired up internally @Phipli bit of a weird one, from cold the Mac Plus + Novy won't reliably start (the accelerator has orange and red LEDs - the red quickly fizzles out), after a...

Likely PSU rating for Novy 020/030 accelerator?

Hi, I’ve an early Novy 68020 accelerator in a Mac Plus, I’ve had it piggybacked off the Plus motherboard harness +5V and experiencing power issues. The Plus analog board is recapped and with the accelerator running it takes a few power cycles to get it running, voltages are rock solid but I...

Either/or get it going off the accelerator first then introduce the FPD card later

What am I doing wrong w/BlueSCSI and MacPack?

@larwe got it thanks - some useful programs on there - will see how easy it is to get going on a Zulu/BlueSCSI.

One PDS slot to rule 'em all... (Mac SE question)

Yep, keeps using onboard 4MB. Real world performance is improved but don’t expect SE/30 snappiness. I’ve just put one in my Plus and it’s good to be able to switch between 68000 and 68030 easily.

    Macintosh SE/30 replace processor MC68030RC16B to MC68030RC30C

Just downloaded it and that guide is utterly amazing - but it focuses on scope which frankly is beyond a lot of amateur troubleshooters (I've got one, and should learn, but am yet to find a need). Take a step back, as Phipli has kindly noted, trace out signals, check for further broken traces...

    Monitor "high resolution"monocrome MO400 arcing

For an old TV or 15khz arcade monitor, those universal chassis have been around for a while, but they're for just that: simple CRTs not computer monitors. I reckon you could find a parts unit eventually.

Dual booting OS9 and OSX on eMac but I'm a Winbaby

Had to look this up, that's new it appears there are slightly different revisions of 1Ghz eMac and it's not related to the optical drive but presume a firmware revision that needs the unsupported OS 9 install CD for the later models. You can download standalone Mac OS 9 drivers for the ATI...

Macintosh Classic II - Display Issue. Video Output With Corrupted Image

welcome Jorge, The Classic/Classic II as you will discover from searching here was a very budget Apple design and will need recapping of both the analogue board and motherboard combined, with a deep clean of everything in the process. After this, pay some attention also to the optoisolator...

Dual booting OS9 and OSX on eMac but I'm a Winbaby

Have a look through the Macintosh Garden website, you will find heaps of “interactive multimedia” programs just different enough from x86 releases to pique your interest. You might like HyperCard releases or some alternative encyclopaedias as mentioned. Also putting it out there the flat, late...

The cloned Micromac Performer accelerators by MacEffects are a good price and would make it more fun: https://maceffects.com/products/maceffects-performer-pds-68030-accelerator-for-apple-macintosh-se

Dual booting OS9 and OSX on eMac but I'm a Winbaby

If you're keen to play older Mac OS games (and what you've mentioned will fly on a 1Ghz G4), go the native supported 1Ghz eMac, OS 9 is certainly possible on the later 1.25Ghz however with quirks, and if you're freshly coming into the Mac side save those dramas for another day. I'd also...
