    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

PB1400 166 dump added to the sheet now. I'm also looking forward to the 5300 dump :)

New Tool Announcement - Rusty Backup - Vintage Filesystem and physical media management app

Nice! There's actually at least two different flavours of HFS+ Journaled, but I believe there's ample public documentation for both (plus Darwin source) so you should be able to integrate it via Claude Opus or similar.

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

Ah; I had that in my "to do" list, but never got around to it. I seem to recall joevt and I both updating our MacROMan forks for that one, but I missed adding it to the sheet.

New Tool Announcement - Rusty Backup - Vintage Filesystem and physical media management app

Thanks for sharing! This looks like it might be a good companion for https://diskjockey.onegeekarmy.eu/ . I appreciate your inclusion of CHD support; I've got a set of scripts I use to do what you've done, but CHD generally lives in its own little world. Are the images it creates...

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

Oddly, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wB2HnysPp63fezUzfgpk0JX_b7bXvmAg6-Dk7QDyKPY/ has it (which makes sense, since it and MacROMan track each other), but it includes details that imply that I had the ROM at some point to validate -- but if that were the case, it should be in...

    Applescanner software

Interesting; I guess when I was using mine back in the day, the plastic gears were already starting to go!

    Applescanner software

If my hazy recollection is right, it's a noisy device, but not in a linear fashion -- I seem to recall it getting louder near the end of the scan. It's possible oiling the motor will remove some of the noise, but you can expect it to be somewhat noisy even when all the parts are moving freely.

    My Mad B&W G3 Setup!

I bought a hot-air gun ~20 years ago, and it always amazes me how many times it's just the right thing for the job (especially spot-drying paint). Having one with an adjustable flow speed and focus point is also really useful (sometimes you just want a small jet of really hot air, sometimes you...

    My Mad B&W G3 Setup!

Yeah; I've used PopupFuncs and MPW Technicolor, which help. I've fiddled around with a Commando interface with a completion list, but found it somewhat lacking -- it still throws a mental roadblock in the workflow. I've got used to doing a LOT of tab completion in my IDEs/text editors over the...

TwiggyMac - Convection Cooling Design Spec. badly botched in 128K thru Plus - Lots of TwiggyPics!

Well... presented that way, it sure explains the thermal issues. All down to a component swap that hamstrung the convection by removing the thermal plate! And yeah; the flat top... I saw SO MANY cases with the top melted because someone stuck a book over the vents.

Apple Extended Keyboard [AEK Numero Uno] - Great Keyboard? Or *Greatest* Keyboard?

I have to admit, I'm also in the ADK camp. The AEK was... fine... and the AEKII made some tradeoffs that always sounded good, but never felt as good. But a good quality ADK always felt way better to me, despite the inferior mechanisms. Of course, a BAD ADK just felt like mush, and was...

DeskScene by PBI Software - Anyone seen it?

:\ That's too bad -- it looks totally and methodically wiped. I had a friend who had that back in the early 90s. Seemed to work reliably. Haven't seen it since, until now. I used another one called DeskPICT for a while; it was a DA that let you set any PICT as a desktop background...

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

Doesn't it just patch the ROM address with the driver on the disk partition when it spins up, before the filesystem load is even attempted?

LaserWriter IISC SCSI protocol reversed (for emulator implementation)

Yeah; back in the day, the first thing I did after installing QuickDraw GX was to print a colour image on my IWII from Graphic Converter -- the dithering was SO much better than with the older drivers, and the printing itself appeared to be faster and quieter as well. But I had to disable it in...

    Apple "mistake? video 512 x 342 vs. 512 x 384

Well that was a really weird experience; you said this, and my memory immediately kicked back to the first time I unboxed a Color classic... right beside a bunch of Classic IIs, and beside the color, the extra video space was definitely noticeable. But the strongest part of the memory was the...

Wireless mouse on Mac OS 9 is no longer an issue.

It's funny; I haven't had the G4 Mini mouse freeze issue on either of my Minis, which both have USB Overdrive installed. I can't remember which ROM I'm using though; I seem to recall it's the one that was built specifically because of the freezing issue with the other ROM.

Reverse-Engineered ROM sources for Mac 128K, 512K and Plus

Have you assembled and tested these already? Or does all the code still need to be hand-validated?

Looking for old versions of MacGhostView

Macintosh Garden has versions 2.0b3, 3.2, 5.1 and 5.5. A big thing that makes the earlier ones hard to find is that the name changed a number of times; you're looking for macgs, macgsview, macghostscript, MacGhostScript 4 is available on the Tucows archive...

AgentBridge: Let an AI agent control your Classic Mac

So this should work to let an actual person control a Classic Mac as well, shouldn't it? But unlike leaning on Apple Events, it uses the toolbox, so should work on older OSes and apps with no published dictionaries.

How to modify the launch screen of the Macin Tower

I started off with the one that's bundled with Beyond Dark Castle, and just edited the image. The one that came with the vMac (not Mini vMac) emulator boot floppy also works.
