    A 512k with a surprise inside

Interesting video. Bit of feedback on your printed chassis mod though. Looks like you're blocking a goodly amount of air intake for your cooling. Those holes are there to let air pulled from the side vents by convection in, across the motherboard and up past the A/B for cooling. ;) Suggest...

Apple Wireless KBD/Magic Trackpad, basically stolen from Goodwill . . .

. . . were in a portable plastic holder's box, seemed heavy. KBD seems good, Trackpad has AA corrosion death syndrome. Already used a 1/2" drill bit to remove the core of the first AA. Looked on eBay and there's no point to making any more mess. Are there even drivers in Linux or Win10 for...

PCMCIA CD-ROM support for Pre-G3 Powerbooks

PowerCD was a "portable" battery operated drive that did a bunch on really neat stuff without a 'Book attached. Had its own CPU in the base unit, The removable flying saucer had a DB25 interface to the base on the back, but it is decidedly NOT a SCSI interface. Without the base unit the flying...

PCMCIA CD-ROM support for Pre-G3 Powerbooks

Those PowerBooks have all got the SCSI standard as external CD-ROM/general purpose interface. Why would anyone in the Mac arena want to run an Optical off that half@$$ed ISA slot? Love it for memory/modem/NIC, but for peripherals? In the SCSI deprived PC Laptop World, PCMCIA makes a lot of...

    5500 board won't POST/chime w/o the Display hooked up?

This is beginning to get annoying. Took another marker off the hardware checklist. Never thought it could matter, but all these machines are expecting a terminated Optical Drive connected to the harness, none on mine, dropped it after having removed the resistor packs. Whatever. So dug through...

    5500 board won't POST/chime w/o the Display hooked up?

HRMMM, sounds like something to try if a recap doesn't fix them. @defor came up with something when I mentioned the Gazelle boards rolling their own 3.3V power: "they provide SOME 3.3 but it’s not enough current to run most cards from what I remember… like it’ll boot but adding some cards will...

    5500 board won't POST/chime w/o the Display hooked up?

They're both chiming now so I'm not sure which is which. Neither produces video or hits the CF Card, so they're hanging fairly early on during POST I'd think. Test setup is now my re-built as of today, 6360, works great with the Alchemy boards. I've never messed with the serial port stuff.

    5500 board won't POST/chime w/o the Display hooked up?

No video out from a PCI card either, so it's hanging somewhere before either of the paths to video dsiplay are initiated.

PSU 6360, 6290 and ? ID help please.

I think we've found a compromise, looks like he'll probably publish under a Creative Commons Non-Commercial License? Since they're not to be produced for sale, I'd rather not see changes done to the silk screen layer. Dunno, we'll work things out, but kits will likely be inexpensive enough that...

PSU 6360, 6290 and ? ID help please.

Phoenix, my newly reamed P6360 RagTop rises from the Dragon's hoard/parts heap again! Would kick my backside if I could! Missed four unmistakable differences between the bare cases indicating 6360: - much larger fan upgrade protrudes into the PSU housing. Necessary so as not to...

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Beautiful, much neater design! ;) Maybe add a U shaped zig-zag provision for a trace cut outside the thruholes for a pair of headers, reconnecting with a jumper? That way you can pull the header and add a couple meters of wire wrap to test signal integrity!:ROFLMAO:

PEx/PowerMac 9700 EVTA logic board observations.

Or no VideoChipset at all as is the case with my Batch A EVTA example and identical units of two others. Lots of PCI slots for VidCards though! All the cased PEx Prototypes I've seen are indeed housed in the 9600 case.

PSU 6360, 6290 and ? ID help please.

Thank you! I'll be setting up a another TestBed using that chassis. Right now It's pretty much a 6x00 bodge, but cleaned it up a bit when the 6360 Video/Sound Card's speaker case base imploded. 6360-Top-Down-Ragtop coming up! I'll be keeping the G3 speaker setup, tore the 6360's out when...

What PCI Card do you have in your 6360/5400/5500/TAM?

Hey, mate! Was hoping you'd chime in here. I've never tried USB on Alchemy/Gazelle. It's been VidCard (full length no less) from almost day one of of my refurb 6360 experience. Hated the looks of the 6400 & 6500 FuglyTowers I snagged so much their bits wound up in my parts bin for planned...

Yep, looks like 3/4 of the max length for PCI!

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

The resolution bump is considerable in the ce, fine also for the larger 1400 display, but a pathetically low resolution by the time of the 3400/TAM era. 1024x768 should have been available well before WallStreet, even if in a 3400/Kanga sized panel.

    5500 board won't POST/chime w/o the Display hooked up?

Won't the board need to at least power up to play with whatever you call communicating at low level over a serial connection? Dug my 6500 board out of the Classic it's been sitting on its head in for two decades. It powers up/chimes, but no video out for some reason. I'll dig out the proper two...

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

At the Portable's frequencies, I'd think trace lengths ought not to be a major concern. A nice touch, but not necessary until you get somewhere into the 25-40MHz range I'd think?
