    Powerbook 3400c Ethernet instability

I'll have to do that, despite the tediousness that will entail. Oh well! I'll get on that test and report back.

    Powerbook RAM expansion card modifications

In the continuing saga of the 180c I'm working on, I dove right in to tackling a memory expansion modification to get it up to that sweet 14MB limit. The card is a 4MB expansion card but has all the pads for 10MB. I wasn't able to source exact replacement chips, instead I found them in a...

    Powerbook 3400c Ethernet instability

I'm quite certain it did not have issues prior to the swap. This is why I figured it was driver issues, I have not been able to get it back to 8.6 for a number of reasons, and I assumed there was maybe an update in there for the underlying drivers. Perhaps not. The reason I'm pretty certain I...

    Powerbook 3400c Ethernet instability

My lovely Powerbook 3400c has been behaving a bit strangely since I swapped out the hard drive for a CF to IDE adapter. I still have the original hard drive so can swap it in as needed for additional testing, but it's on its last legs. I've installed 8.1 via emulator, and then dd'ed it to the...

    Powerbook 180c boot issues

Thanks for the heads up, but that was the first thing I did!

    Powerbook 180c boot issues

Updating this thread as imactheknife and I worked a bit in PMs. Hopefully this information will be of use to someone. The inability to boot from floppy mentioned before was a silly mistake, due to an incompatible boot floppy. One built from an appropriate set of images off Macintosh Repository...

    Powerbook 180c boot issues

I’d like to try the interconnect board. I have already tried the reset procedure. Thanks! I will give the boards a cleaning tomorrow.

    Powerbook 180c boot issues

Well, no dice. Same behavior with the replacement daughter card. Either they’re both bad in the same manner or it’s something else entirely. Damn frustrating. I really wanted this to work!

    Powerbook 180c boot issues

I made that username a while ago when I was living in Canada. Now I’m in the states (NY). I’ll go snag the daughter card I saw on eBay for a relatively good price. Thanks for the advice! I hope this fixes it up. I really like this PB, it’s gonna be a permanent member of my collection.

    Powerbook 180c boot issues

No battery corrosion on either spot. It's a shame the button cell is soldered in like that, I would be more inclined to swap it if it would at least have a cable and connector. Oh well. I'll get around to it sometime. I'll probably buy a replacement daughter card since there's a few on eBay...

    Powerbook 180c boot issues

Looking for some advice with a problematic 180c I'm working on. I had no issues cleaning up the display caps, so that work is all done. The hard drive was spotty and wouldn't reliably boot (at all, but the seller had it boot once), so I swapped in a BlueSCSI. I was having issues with that...

    Self-Contained POTS System?

Absolutely not! Some modems will listen for a dial tone and will not operate until it is detected. Now, there are hayes commands to disable this behanvior, but it may not support that command functionality. Moreover, the full line voltage may be needed, proper ringing, etc.  A PBX can be had...

    Self-Contained POTS System?

Yep! In fact, I can do one better than that. My city provides free dial-up internet access to anyone. So, I can choose between dialing internally for access, or dialing externally for access as well, as we still have our landline connection.  At which point it becomes rediculous. We get service...

    Self-Contained POTS System?

Cool! It's not entirely a necessity for me, but I'm sure in the future it'll become useful.  But, for file transfers, wouldn't an external SCSI drive loaded with files be much better? A heck of a lot faster. No multiple access, but for that you can use an Appletalk network and a file share.

    Self-Contained POTS System?

Hmmm. Lots of research that needs to be done. I'll probably end up doing that much later.  For now, I'm going to test out this setup on my PBX system, and compare. I'll see how much that ISDN expansion costs, from what you've said it could enable some very cool stuff.

    Self-Contained POTS System?

I see what you're saying. The PBX that I've got can handle an ISDN expansion, so I'll keep my eyes open for one and also look into snagging an ISDN interface for my Cisco. It'll take some time for my budget, but if that ends up going well I'll post on the forums about it.  Quite frankly I'm...

    Self-Contained POTS System?

Cisco does have ISDN and T1 interfaces, but keep in mind that when you start getting to digital connections, you start having problems in that the underlying infrastructure is a lot more complex than POTS. Those are both based on DS0 bundles, so while they're voice channels, I wouldn't know...

    Self-Contained POTS System?

Just chiming in because I have this setup at home. Mind you I got quite lucky with the finds needed to get it running.  I use my Cisco 2821 router with a WIC-2AM installed for the ISP end of the connection. Those are both cheap and plentiful, and configuration is easy (if you've worked with...

Specific info needed on a Seagate ST51080N HDD

Bought a selection of hard drives, and I noticed on the bottom of one of the drives (ST51080N, as per the title) has some SMD caps that had slid off their pads. Upon further inspection, I found a total of three other pads with components missing.  I was only able to find one missing component...

New HDD in SE/30, HD SC setup patched doesn't like it.

Having some trouble with a new HDD I purchased for my SE/30. The disk appears to be perfectly OK, disk first aid says it's fine, Lido 7 can scan and mount it, and I've installed 7.3.5 on to it. It won't boot from it, so I assumed I needed to initialize it with Setup 7.5.3 Patched, but when the...
