I’ve got a Buffalo 500Mhz G3 in my beige G3, it’s the perfect match works well - once you go past this speed in early G3 desktops it’s a law of diminishing returns. Voodoo 2 would be a nice addition in one of the slots.
Hi Lastic,
Looks great nice pickup. I've never found a 5x0 battery alive in all my years of collecting, even with restoration. There are some guides on here listing various success with replacement cells but hard to get right.
The PCMCIA adapter fetches a pretty penny if found loose. I'd...
Coming from a Mac world, the mouse card is useful to me in an Apple II it'll stay.
If you are running an Apple composite CRT and don't mind modern enhancements like these, I'd thoroughly recommend the ESP32 card. Coming up is reportedly an Apple II emulator which runs 4X the original speed...
Yeah that's not factory :). Take it apart and see, someone has done it and it probably worked like this for years, it might be a faulty DC jack that makes it switch off when moved, over this butchery.
Hi,
What other Macs do you have at your disposal to fix the software issues?
1) not sure
2) try to clean the lens with a cotton tip dipped in IPA, failing that take apart the 1400 optical drive and dial up the laser strength pot
3) Any generic CF-PCMCIA card adapter will work, usually...
Hi,
I'd try to reformat the drive on the oldest Mac, your 7200. Try also the Sonnet Tempo Trio in another slot ... or in your Quicksilver, to rule out the card. Lastly there is a firmware update for the Trio card here...
I recently used dual-wipe, “tulip” sockets are higher quality but the new RAM be a difficult fit don’t use.
You are looking for 16-pin DIP sockets x 16, and 4164 compatible DRAM x 16 below 150ns.
Thanks all, it’ll be used for general use and show offs with the ESP32 card installed. Wouldn’t mind trying to print from an ImageWriter using Print Shop, so will keep the single Apple Serial card and Slinky card there is enough room for it to stay.
The AE serial card does a bit more however...
Welcome and like you love a good Frankenstein build - has to be done!
Also love the beige PowerMac G3, it felt like such a massive jump when released and many were true workhorses for years.
Hi,
A little while back I purchased the amazing ESP32 card for the Apple II, and would love to finally get my Apple IIe working well around this. I don't have any working disk drives so previously used a floppy emu on it, however have a BOOTI card in it now.
These are the cards that are in...
You can clean the heads gently using a cotton bud dipped in IPA, check also for dust bunnies inside the unit - this won't put anything out of alignment. Check also floppy cable for any damage.
Those reading here later, on restoring an Apple Scanner/OneScanner, the main large toothy gear is not easily removed on the stepper motor; it is a pressure fit and if it looks soft it will likely crumble in your fingers on removal. Other evidence would be small black chunks of plastic shearing...
Hi plat,
Yep, that's an odd fault :) Have you stripped down the drive and cleaned the heads, re-lubricated the metal frame and checked if the eject gear is fully working - it sounds like it isn't engaging properly in the floppy mechanism but gravity allows the floppy to somehow get in the right...
