    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

I nearly installed (2) caps backwards in the logic board, again. No hot polyester confetti party this time though, didn't power it up backwards. Couldn't believe I did it the first time on the SE logic board (same two caps even C18, C11), C18 popped and stunk the house up for an evening. Guess...

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Got the eject gear from Betterbit. Recapped the floppy. Was watching the JDW video for the 1.44Mb floppy, and he recommends using Dow Corning EM-30L lube for the entire drive. Just ordered some from here in California, hopefully it gets here soon.

Mac SE/30 booting but blank screen

Nice work! What gave you the clue that it was the LS393 chip causing this? Was the chip visibly corroded?

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

This SE/30 is coming together a lot faster than my SE restoration. It's always easier the second time around. Got the PSU done, fresh heat grease too. Logic, analog, and PSU finished. Ordered the yellow tantalum caps, got all black, can live with it. Clear glue on all the same factory...

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Didn't seem like that many parts when I was ordering, but that's every cap in the SE/30. Time to get started.

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Got the SMD caps removed, and the board cleaned of corrosion. Will freshen up the solder pads tomorrow. Hopefully the Mouser order shows up tomorrow.

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Not a fan of the large molex adapter, I like the one I got, great flow and very quiet. Both the 3-pin and 4-pin run at 3000RPM, and cost the same. Thanks.

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

I bought the 5V fan in error, and then waited for Amazon to stock the 12V again for over a month, they have plenty now. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VXTANZ4 Had to cut the 4-pin end off, and heat shrink the blue and green wires on the SE I just finished. Plan to do this same thing to the...

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Thank you all so much for laying out all of the current upgrade options for the SE/30, it's very helpful and I'll keep re-reading this in order to make a final decision. I'll wait to decide on the ROM/RAM, until this one is recapped and 100% working, before adding anything new. All of the new...

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Thanks for the replies! I see that the BMOW ROM disables the memory test over 16+Mb of RAM, would that still not be a reason to go 128Mb and max it out? https://www.bigmessowires.com/mac-rom-inator-ii/

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Which is the best 32-bit clean ROM, and 128Mb RAM kit, available for the SE/30 today?

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

You both just made my day, thanks for the info! I'll twist those old caps off, and get the board cleaned up this evening.

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Thanks for the info, wasn't certain how much different or improved things were from the SE model. Thanks too for letting me know those are the factory caps, I thought they had to be. I also thought that this SE/30 had not been opened before, but I see now that this was the 4Mb RAM, 80Mb HDD...

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Ordered a floppy eject gear, all the caps for the PSU, analog, logic, and floppy, and ordered a 12V Notcua fan. Looks like the case will clean up fairly well. Had a large industrial strength velcro strip on it. Was able to get most of the scuff marks off the bezel, more work to be done...

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Did the later MFD-75W-01G 'Superdrive', also require an eject gear replacement?

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

To remove the old SMD caps, I was going to use the push down and twist method, with pliers. I really appreciate the encouragement, much thanks! On my last SE restoration, I used 12% Peroxide hair creme, and a 10W UV LED, it came out really well. SE before the UV/peroxide: Today:

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Thanks! I did get this one from ebay, the seller hadn't powered it up, or cleaned it for the auction; they also said there was nothing known about the history of it, so that probably drove most of the competition away. JDW makes some great content for Mac users, will go with tantalum polymer...

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

Going to make a custom cap list from Digi for this project, I have other projects that require components too, might as well ship them all for one fee.

Glad to hear all was well. Some people really take that superstition stuff seriously.

    Macintosh SE/30 M5119 - Restoration

How does everyone feel about the Console5 recap kits for the SE/30, am I better off making my own list at Digi?
