Well... that took W A Y longer than planned!
However, I can now confirm that the ROM I posted a pic of is indeed a Rev.A. Bummer. I did, however, pull the ROMs from all my beige G3s and can add the following info to the database... Firstly, a "WRAITH ROM" from one of my G3 MTs ...
Yeah, I've been thinking along these lines for the longer-term. Will let you know how the testing goes. (that said, I expect it will work since I'd previously used a smaller clamp to confirm the instability was down to the splitting connector)
Believe it or not... haven't had a chance to test yet. 😞 Life threw some serious curveballs which put Mac-time on hold for most of May/June. Just getting back to a few projects - including this - that were back-burnered.
Visibly, the repair went well - just need to drop a CPU in and check...
I've NO idea what the chip is on the extreme left end, and the pic is a bit blurry... but those pins near the hole above the "208" look pretty close together...
Worth a good inspection?
I thought there was something familiar about your card...
Not sure how much help it'll be over here across the pond. I also see some buldging on my PLCC socket, but I've not had any issues so leaving it alone.
@Berenod - I had 5 x of Alex's 2/5 motherboard made up, so I can spare one if you're interested. Also, I believe a 2/10 chassis can be converted to a 2/5 if you swap the internal wiring.
I don't believe the 2/10 motherboard & I/O boards have been recreated? The CPU and RAM boards are the same between the two models, but the I/O board is specific to the motherboard and the 2/5 motherboard won't fit a 2/10 chassis and vice versa.
That's exactly it... patience (and persistence) and I've usually been able to get good results. It's also a case of the more you do, the more you get the hang of it. It's a bit of a black art, but worth it IMO. 😀
I've had pretty good luck on the few I've needed to "straighten" out. It is a mind-bender, though, with each magnet affecting the others nearby. 😵💫
I wonder if many of the badly off ones you find on the various marketplaces are the result of "frankenstein" reconstructions? 🤔
