Here's a comparison of OpenMark scores between the Quadro4 900 XGL (equivalent to Ti 4600) and the Quadro4 700 XGL, posted from the actual machine using AquaFox :)
I finished working on a Quadro4 900 XGL last night. After repairing damage to the board and replacing capacitors, it worked great in a PC. The device ID change for this one to Ti 4600 is easy; just one resistor needs to be moved on the back of the card, R963 to R962, to change device id 0x258 to...

Thank you!
When I say they're unreliable due to bad cooling, I am unfortunately lumping the 9700, 9800 and Geforce4 Ti cards together. I agree the 9700 and 9800 are the worst because ATI chose to put the RAM chips directly back-to-back, and the Samsung DDR used on the majority of them runs hot...
Based on the asking prices for them on eBay and elsewhere, everyone apparently loves the NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti 4600. Asking prices are not necessarily selling prices, but if you want a working one of those cards, you'll likely still end up paying a few hundred dollars. I get it, it's the fastest...
Well, "later today" came a few days late, but the results of test2 are the same as test1. Thank you for your time and effort nonetheless, @joevt.
Would an nvramrc script to start telnet in open firmware be sufficient, or does it need to be a serial connection to debug an issue early in boot...
I was thinking about this card today, while I was supposed to be working. There's one question that's bothering me--why all the level shifters?
The 604 is compatible with either 3.3V or 5V I/O. The 604e apparently dropped 5V tolerance on the I/O pins, so it's 3.3V only. As far as I know, 604e...
I was disappointed this morning to find that I could not download the latest version of AquaFox from GitHub using the previous version of AquaFox :( I guess I'll get it on there via network or USB eventually.
I was in the middle of writing a reply, then saw that zzj had just written everything I was going to as well or better than I would've, so +1 to everything above :)
Just checked the two power supplies. This is #1, apparently it's Rev. B, date code looks like week 25 of 2001. This one has more Chemi-Con caps (as per the list in my first post) and has the funky fan control board rework.
This is #2, Rev. E, week 51 of 2001. So AcBel was going through a...
Thanks guys. Here's where you need to desolder to remove the big heatsink (circled in red) and remove the two screws (circled in white):
I took the picture right after reassembling, so those pins haven't been resoldered yet. This is power supply #2, which had a green TEAPO on the fan board...
I'm glad to hear that! Was this a preventative recap or a repair? Aside from the dust, mine looks pretty good inside, and the caps are good brands, so I'm inclined to leave it alone since it's working fine.
With R42 being 700k and in series with R41, perhaps they form a (very low current)...
I fell into the "you must recap everything" mentality and did two of these Sony power supplies a couple years ago. What I found was that all of the caps I removed measured good, and none were leaking, so I no longer mess with them. The Sony supplies are high quality. If the voltages are good, I...
Although I have not personally tried them, there are more options for Wifi on OS 9 than the Orinoco/Airport hardware: https://lowendmac.com/2009/wifi-pc-cards-for-powerbooks-running-mac-os-9/
Thanks to you, I know how filthy and dusty my 7600 power supply was inside...yuck! 🤢
I did not remove R41 from the glue, but I desoldered it and bent its leads away from the edges of the holes so I could measure it out of circuit. I got 838.6 kohms, which is right near the bottom of the range...
Thanks. I wish I had a serial port adapter for the G4. I also have a couple of PCI old world machines, a 7600 and a 5400, along with a PC that could be pressed into service. I'll give your new ROM a try later today.
