Do any current low-end laser printers play well (or poorly) with older (post-Classic) OS X macs?

I have a Brother HL-L3230CDW. It's been great; rock solid reliable, reasonably priced consumables. I just tried connecting to it with my Quicksilver running 10.4.11. It was detected immediately via Bonjour in the Printer Browser utility. I tried the HL-2460 series CUPS v1.1 driver and it quickly...

    Quicksilver Power Supply Recap

I've been trying to kill the high-pitched whine/hiss in the Rev. B power supply, correlated with CPU/GPU load, for a while now and have not been successful. In addition to the recap, I tried swapping the Rev. E fan control board into the Rev. B. It works fine, but no noise improvement. I...

Any interest in 16MB Mac IIFX memory modules?

I wonder if this was an OpenClaw thing? The Internet is a weird place to be right now.

    Sonnet Crescendo G3 vs. G4

I just picked up a Sonnet Crescendo G3 300/1M on eBay because it was cheap enough and seemed like it would be fun to play with. This is the "big" card that Sonnet also used for G4 upgrades, vs. the smaller design that appears to have been for G3s only. I noticed that the G4 version has two...

Building the fastest Power Mac 9600

I'm pleased to be able to say from experience that this isn't strictly the case: https://68kmla.org/bb/threads/power-mac-7500-9600-bus-speed-overclocking.45179/#post-576375 I also have a tool for this...

Testing with another PDS card would be a good idea. Unfortunately both the machine and the card are suspect at this point.

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI cards, converting from 64-bit to 128-bit and other details

I'm not sure. I think it would be worth opening another thread if you can't figure it out. Honestly, most of the fun for me in stuff like this is getting the hardware working; once I do, I tend to lose interest and move on to the next thing I want to try to get working...

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI cards, converting from 64-bit to 128-bit and other details

Interesting, thanks for digging that up. I will play around a little bit more between 5960 and 5961.

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI cards, converting from 64-bit to 128-bit and other details

I had some time last night so I tried changing the device ID in the ROM to 0x5964 on a card that would otherwise be 0x5960. This was the result (viewed with an NVIDIA AGP card): As one might expect, it didn't work. My conclusion is either that 0x5960 is set in the hardware in a way I don't...

    Cleaning a logic board tips?

That board looks like it should only need compressed air, and maybe a soft brush. It would be wise to replace the electrolytic capacitors at this point. The red dots are the glue used to hold surface-mount components in place during soldering and they are harmless.

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI cards, converting from 64-bit to 128-bit and other details

@herd that's really cool, thanks! I've gotten a lot of good video card info from VOGONS. It's a great resource. An eBay seller offered me a good price on a PCI Radeon 9200 SE. I haven't gone for it (yet). Based on the little research I've done, I expect the 9200 SE will have a device ID of...

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI cards, converting from 64-bit to 128-bit and other details

There was a G5-compatible PCIe X1900 GT, and its ROM is on The Mac Elite. As far as I know, nobody has gotten the AGP version working. The X1300 is, in theory, 1/4 of an X1900. So as a prerequisite, if the AGP X1900 could be made to work, then maybe the X1300 PCI could be made to work. Each is a...

ATI Radeon 9250 PCI cards, converting from 64-bit to 128-bit and other details

Thanks guys, yeah, having some fairly low-stakes fun with these old PCI cards. I finished up jt's VisionTek card today. It got a recap, and I replaced the diodes with STTH310s, which are 1.7V forward voltage. I measured 843mV across them while the card was running, so they're definitely doing...
