Are any of these NUBUS graphics cards any good?

I have a Paintboard Lightning in my Q700 and a Thunder II GX in my Q800. As an example, scrolling the homepage on the garden in Netscape in 16 or 24bit is quite good on both, much faster than onboard video. Finder window redraws are faster on the TIIGX, but not massively so. I guess both...

Using Magneto Optical drives on vintage 68k Macs

That's interesting. I don't have any currently but a nice MO drive is on my list, so I have been quietly following this thread. What kit did you use and what did the process entail to clean the disks?

What System/mac Os version are you nostalgic for.

My (as in personally mine) first Mac was an SE with 6.0.8 and 7.0, so I am super nostalgic for both of those. My first Mac experience was when my aunt bought a new Performa 630 bundle (she was a primary school teacher and there was a promotion for those at that time) and I spent countless hours...

What's the fastest drive option for a SCSI Mac?

Those benchmarks posted by @Paulie have got me wondering... No experience with the ZuluSCSI here, but using the same benchmark, my SCSI2SD v6 benched somewhat faster on the internal bus (Also a Quadra 650/800, but stock clocks) compared to his, reaching 2.8something MB/S. I'm curious to know...

Simple revive of a dead Nubus Jackhammer...

Much appreciated, I will experiment with this hopefully this evening. Have you experienced the corrupted ROM issue before on the Jackhammer?

Simple revive of a dead Nubus Jackhammer...

Thanks, 3.0.2 "PE" is on the garden. Is that good to go, or is "PE" some cut down "lite" thing?

Simple revive of a dead Nubus Jackhammer...

I recently bought a nubus Jackhammer on ebay, and tried it for the first time this evening. I was extremely disappointed to find that in both my nubus macs (Quadra 700 and 800) it was totally DOA. Didn't show in the Jackhammer CDEV, totally AWOL in Tattletech; I tried the usual swapping...

Cube Owners: Artmix VRM II available, slightly updated

Until herd chimes in, I would mention that I have almost the same configuration and it works fine - artmix vrm, stock heatsink (some minor work done to it), 1.7GHz Encore ST. The fan runs and is audible, but quite quiet really. It does not run too hot (as I would consider it), it's very cool...

Macintosh 12” RGB Display (M1299 / M1296) with Vertical Linearity issue?

For that sort of fault, my money is still on capacitors. Note that ESR testing is not 100% reliable! I work with CNC machines, some of them old, bad caps are fact of life for me. My typical approach when I suspect bad caps and have no schematic is just to brute force replace them all, but I...

    Period displays for Quadra 700?

I have a 16” Colour Display (currently dismantled in boxes waiting for a recap that has never happened) and a 17” Multiple Scan that I use as my daily driver on my Quadras. These two are almost identical form factors and both look great next to any Quadra or early powermac. The 16 is quite badly...

What should I use to lubricate display hinges?

https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/greases/7805284 That's what I have on the shelf right now, but only because I use ambersil products a lot at work. It's a pretty common product group that you should be able to find easily enough from a number of brands

What should I use to lubricate display hinges?

I typically use some type of white silicon grease for such things as its generally kinder on plastics than lithium grease

NuBus card to speed up decompression on IIfx?

To answer the question directly (but not usefully), this is the kind of thing those RISC processor cards (I forget who made them or what silicon was onboard) would have been used for. Proprietary custom software of course, probably developed in-house by whoever had the need… I use my vintage...

Need help to fix quadra 800

i don‘t know, but that is very interesting because your board is now in the exact same state as my other wombat board, on which I have gone to quite significant lengths to get scsi working to no avail. This particular board was never battery bombed and I have never been near U63 on it, but it...

Need help to fix quadra 800

According to the Guide to Macintosh Family Hardware 2nd Edition, the RTC (at least on previous models) also contains the PRAM, so it makes sense that it would be accessed early in the boot process... On the other hand, the volume of the chime is stored in PRAM, so it must be reading that...

Need help to fix quadra 800

I don't think U63 has any direct connection to video, but it is presumably somehow instrumental in the early boot process as evidenced by my board with the same symptoms.

Need help to fix quadra 800

I'd remove the ram and vram simms while testing. Wombat has both onboard. After the chime, it does the memory test, then there should be a faint pop from the speaker, and then you should get video. I am curious if the behaviour changes if you remove U63 altogether. I have a wombat board on...
