Eager to watch...

I tried out the no-FPU 040 again today, to refresh my memory of the issue with it and it booted with a normal chime, but there was no video or apparent further boot processing, since the HD did not progress. After trying a couple of more reboots to make sure that was the only result, I swapped...

Do you have a picture of this that you can post? Also, how are you washing the board? I had a no FPU 040 chip I tried and I don't believe it worked on mine - I don't recall the exact way it failed to work, but I can recheck that on mine and report back.

Makes sense, since it would facilitate hard drive adoption by removing one of the obstacles "I have to run XXXX off a floppy anyway, so why buy a hard disk?". Excellent catch and a nice discovery! :cool:

Not sure if there is any help there, but pp 49 - 50 in the dead Mac scrolls cover this condition... It looks like the explanations on page 49 cover fixes that you have already attempted (resoldering J1 and then recapping should have addressed C5). Page 50 covers other potential electrical issues...

It does look really nice, and just the right shade of mature. Be careful with the back panel and especially with the side clips. I tried taking mine apart one time, and that was something I never tried again! Good luck with yours!

So you wrapped and sealed the bumper with this - It looks excellent, and since it works that's even better! Which brand of tape did you use (3M Temflex?, WarriorWrap? something else? Could you share a product number if you have it?

I've got the Marx brothers as well - I think I've seen the Dwarfs on earlier boards(?), but I also thought that I should mention that the 512 board that mine was attached to had a bad (leaky) axial cap, which I still need to make time to fix.

You folks are a real bad influence on me! I thought this was way too good an idea not to try out, so now I own an original LC that I have just successfully, recapped, but since it missed my flurry of retrobriting this summer, I may have to try out one of the indoor alternatives.

That's what I found with mine - no zany startup, and the MonsterMac just worked, providing the additional memory. I have a revision 'D' board with the same revision ROMS and I suspect that only early revisions of the board/ROMS had the fun startup and that it was cleansed from the later...
