As someone who is all those things, I can see that I live a privileged and comfortable, free from the hatred directed at anyone who doesn't share my archetype. To say otherwise would be like a professional boxer trying to justify walloping a small child "because they hit me first". Society is...

An actual FX-180P? I seem to remember so. It looks right. I'd have gotten it for school in about 1986. I used if for about ten years and replaced it with an FX-115S (which I still have). The 115S only stopped being used when the Mac calculator became capable enough to do what I needed.

I look forward to the day when all the food banks are closed because the government is doing its job of looking after those in need and are taxing those who can afford it appropriately.

Absolutely right Cheesy. I used to donate to food banks (actually, I still do), but now I put a hundred a month in the Trussell trust - on the basis that a) they need to pay for the administration and b) anything left over they can spend on the items they know they need.

I'm not going to get rid of all my old machines - but it probably is time for a bit of a clear out. Maybe that will also lighten my mental load. So this weekend, time permitting, I will sort my computers and bits 'n' bobs into a 'keep' pile and a 'discard' pile. Discard will be sold for...

I'm feeling a profound sense of unease about the world. Reading about the bile and horribleness being unloaded on anyone who isn't a) caucasian, b) male, c) straight cis d) reasonably wealthy is enough to make me want to run screaming back to bed. So I did what (I think*) I always do - I bought...

    Oh No! More Macs

I saw a little mod you can do for a compact Mac to replace the CRT with a VGA out - so a VGA LCD and a Pico PSU, perhaps? My car isn't electric - so the Mac would only run until the fuel tank ran try. Probably about 72hours of idling (guessing) although I suspect that the car might try to turn...

    Oh No! More Macs

I didn’t realise that the SE drew so little. The three pin socket in the back of my estate car can deliver up to 120W - so now I want to power, and use, a compact Mac in my car!

    Cheap as chips Atari STE

I bought my first Mac in 1992 at University in order to learn 68000 assembly language. Some of you may know this. I chose the Mac over the ST or the Amiga because I wanted a hard drive, and because I saw a second hand Mac SE for the same price as a new Amiga or ST. The Mac seemed to be the...

G5 Death? Another one bites the dust?

Hmm. I shall look into getting another - if I can find out for a reasonable price. I shall offer the old one for repair at the cost of the postage.

G5 Death? Another one bites the dust?

Okay. I found myself with a few spare moments this afternoon, so I popped the top of my G5 and did a little digging - and it may not be dead after all. In a tidy up, I found another AGP graphics card - popped that in instead, and bong! It booted. Put the old one back in? Dead. The card that...

    MacSD as MIDI device

Thanks for this - that’s great.

    MacSD as MIDI device

How do you do that? What parts do I need? Photo?

    MacSD as MIDI device

Yeah, that's the config I'm using at the moment - but with the USB and mpu_401 configs removed. Still no dice. Internally, the 475 doesn't have stereo, but I wonder if I could just use the mono output to the internal speaker? Or would the power be too high? When I get a moment, I'll try MacSD...

    MacSD as MIDI device

Yeah. I'm thinking I should try it without the BlueSCSI - but the BlueSCSI, with its better CD Support, is more useful to me at the moment. When I get a moment.

MacOS 7.6, and the supplied version of OMS (Can’t remember which version that is!)

    MacSD as MIDI device

It comes with the drivers, and without the special driver it isn't detected at all (which is kinda what you'd expect). All the software I'm using is software that comes with MacSD. And I thought I had it configured right - but OMS just crashes. And yes, I want to use the onboard synth - but...

    MacSD as MIDI device

I got my MacSD! And I‘ve managed to fit it to my LC475, inside the case, with a BlueSCSI (which I prefer for its CD selection method - I know the MacSD can read CDs, it just doesn’t do it quite as elegantly from my perspective.) But MIDI! That’s the real party trick. I want to use the MacSD for...

Macintosh Personal Color, a Fantasy 1986, 68000 Mac with a 4bpp Color Mode (Emulator)

Yeah, I know - it's how ScuzzyGraph worked. So, IIRC, CricketDraw supported it. It can't be the only software that did though. I wonder if any games, either deliberately or accidentally, had support? Weirdly, I don't think that CricketDraw displayed colour on a Mac II or newer - so how did...
