If you could bring back classic Mac OS software, what would it be?

I played the s**t out of Spaceward Ho! on my SE/30 in the early 90s. Probably my 3rd most hours spent back then after Curse of Azure Bonds and Pool of Radiance.

SE anode cap: Inconsistent connection with inside of CRT?

I've seen the blooming multiple times (i.e. the sides bulge out when a white window opens on a gray background). I performed a series of tests, swapping analog boards, neck boards, deflection yokes, etc. In the cases I experienced, the tube itself ended up being the culprit. I believe that as...

Nooby looking for wisdom Mac SE Dual Drive - Where do I start?

The anode cap isn’t a replaceable part. It’s permanently attached and comes as part of the flyback transformer assembly. I would be very weary of potential shorts in the anode cap since that will surely lead to some nasty sparking. If it was me, I would try to source a replacement flyback...

    Macintosh IIsi solder ram replacement

Those look correct based on the article you linked, but personally I wouldn't buy from a site like this since there's a high likelihood of receiving fake ICs. What I would do is to look on eBay for 72-pin RAM SIMMs (72-pin being the most economical since they are usually cheap) that have those...

Mac II motherboards driving me crazy. Chime but no video after a recap.

Congratulations!! That makes at least two of us that had the 40MHz oscillator go bad. I wonder if it's a common problem with the Mac II.

Mac II motherboards driving me crazy. Chime but no video after a recap.

I've had a few Mac II's with no video. NUBUS circuitry on those machines takes up like half the board, and any broken trace anywhere will lead to lack of NUBUS and therefore no video. I would start by carefully inspecting traces. Possible suspects would include ICs in the vicinity of leaky...

    Yet another SE/30 Restoration Project

Oh, right on. Didn't know about that. It still comes to about $10 a pop after shipping and taxes, which is still quite high, but not outrageous.

    Yet another SE/30 Restoration Project

If building a reloaded board, be aware that the traditional replacement RAM slots from PE connectors have shot up in price and are now $40 each! Used to be like $6. So take care desoldering the existing ones.

Nooby looking for wisdom Mac SE Dual Drive - Where do I start?

Looks like your anode cap clip separated, either during disassembly or during operation (which could have caused your issue). Look at the back side of the CRT - the metal clip sticking out is supposed to be attached to the red anode cap. Not sure how these are constructed, but I believe some...

    Got a blue/white G3 tower for 50 bucks. Freezing MacOS 9.2

If you’re planning in expanding your collection, imho a cheap CD/DVD burner is a great investment and will save you a lot of money in the long run vs. sourcing original disks.

Macintosh IIfx tries to start but won't catch

Usually? Have you seen some of the eBay sales lately? Most of them are far beyond saving via a simple recap. Edit: I didn’t realize you were not in the US. Long story short, it’s been a while I’ve seen a IIfx listing that wasn’t just a pile of rust. Good condition machines are becoming...

    Got a blue/white G3 tower for 50 bucks. Freezing MacOS 9.2

Random freezes while idle could indicate a failing PSU. But you have the right idea to start with a fresh install and see what happens.

    IIFX ram gerber

50V 0.1uF. 0805 package fits well P. S. Lower voltage ones will probably work too, I just didn't see a reason since 50v come in the right size and are dirt cheap. I built 2 sets of 128MB with those and they all work well.

Soft power fix ideas for Color Classic

Are you sure the little metal springs on the underside of the logic board are all contacting the metal RF shielding? You can pull them slightly more open to ensure they are making solid contact. Also, make sure there's no corrosion or other obstructions on the RF shield in the contact areas.

    New Project: Prodigy 040/060 Card

This sounds great! I have a few Amigas with (your???) accelerators, including the ACA500, ACA1234 (with an FPU upgrade), as well as the AGA MK3. As the previous poster, I'm also curious how this will work across different models. AFAIK, there's a lot of proprietary trickery that was...

One PDS slot to rule 'em all... (Mac SE question)

Imho, the 030 accelerators with on-board RAM are the ultimate SE upgrade, some far exceeding SE/30 speeds and quadrupling your RAM to 16MB. Unfortunately they are not easy to find these days, and usually priced accordingly. The only issue I’ve experienced with these is some of them can be...

What am I doing wrong w/BlueSCSI and MacPack?

I’ve used MacPack in the past the same exact way you are attempting, and it worked just fine. Just downloaded and renamed it to vhd (with the appropriate SCSI id) and it just worked. It’s possible that your machine is booting off the MacPack 6.0.8, not your original image, and maybe there’s...

    Pair of Macintosh IIs

That is possible, and perhaps attributing to my results at least with the Astec since I only have one of those. But I do have 3 of each of the old and new Sonys (6 total Sony PSUs) and the difference between 699-0389 and 699-0393 is huge in my experience. I’m pretty sure these were redesigned...

    Pair of Macintosh IIs

I have done side by side comparisons, and I find that the original Sony CR45S (699-0389) is by far the loudest, with the Astec being slightly quieter, and the newer Sony CR45S (699-0393), which was only included with the IIfx, is much much quieter than the other two. Interestingly, I’m pretty...

ATI Graphics Accelerator extension isn’t loading with flashed 9200

I remember having similar issues a while back. I think I ended up finding drivers that worked after trying multiple variations. I would try searching for ATI 9200 Mac drivers “DVI-I”. I believe the DVI-I version of the drivers was different somehow and it was the only version that worked for...
