Macintosh IIsi - Issues after boot

I've had tons of problems with iisi power supplies, so i'd tend to agree too. If you have an iici (or model with the same power supple) its plug and play to test with. It's obviously heat related since you're getting 4 mins cold. If it ends up not being the power supply I'd get you a can of cold...

SE/30 Sound and Boot Freeze Issues

Same here... I've seen people drag solder them, but I like to go one pin at a time. To quote Hicks, "Its's the only way to be sure". I use the same size chisel tip, and switch out with a bent conical tip for pads that need a little more heat. For sure! You need to know if there is any...

Logic Board reworking: A Tale of Two IIcx

It would be dangerous for me to be that close to Jameco! Definetly jealous. There are very few places to even drive to get parts nowadays. Luckily, Mouser is normally next day delivery. Great troubleshooting!

I Finally Built My Own Power Mac G4!!

It's a great feeling to finally get that project your working on finished! Congrats! Sounds like you had fun with the wireless!!! I went hard wired, so I never had to address these issues (luckily!). Good info for people wanting to do the same in the future! Only thing left I want to do to...

5400/160 logic board looks ok but seems dead

Here's a visual of the possible shorts I saw on the processor. I'd look at all of the legs up close to verify there aren't any others just to be sure.

5400/160 logic board looks ok but seems dead

Heya Killvore! I'd go back and check your cap work first. It looks like R33 might be shorting to a via, but I'd check them all up close and make sure your not shorting anything. The processor looks like legs might be possibly shorted on one side (bent), and there looks like a solder short on...

Easy to follow guide on tracing UE8 lines on SE30?

I wasn't sure if you meant the schematics or the chip, so I figured I'd cover both. All chips have a notch, line, or indentation to represent the top of the chip. In a dip configuration that will mean the first one to the left will be pin 1 (see pic). You count around the chip to find the...

    Anyone have an SE speaker?

Yeah... I would't be super concerned about matching it exactly. I use a 16ohm speaker on the test bench to test any boards I work on. As for stressing chips... The Sony Chips don't drive the speaker directly (the part I'm assuming you're concerned about). The speaker is driven by U92 and 2A...

    Simasimac after recapping working SE30

Keep it simple. If it was working before you started then you need to check everything you worked on. Verify the pads are still connected to their trace, verify you got polarity correct on your caps, verify you used the correct cap, and check the whole board for any accidentally dropped solder...

SE video: almost perfect, but, it 'flinches'. (video = 1000 words)

To expand on what I suggested last night. I watched the video multiple times (so many times my wife commented the song I was listening to was very repetitive 😁) to verify the issue. The screen looks like it is getting wider on the right, but is pulling in on the left. It looks like the...

SE video: almost perfect, but, it 'flinches'. (video = 1000 words)

If I was to guess that looks like a vertical linearity issue. Because it's intermittent I'd be looking at solder joints/ parts around pin 1, 10, and 12 of the tda1170 (according to the datasheet).

    SE/30 battery bombed repair attempt

Since you had battery damage I would check continuity of all your data / address lines. . Start with your rom socket to cpu. Seen a number of issues there. After that I would check everything going from rom socket to the mux'. There is a pin to pin matrix that someone was nice enough to make...
