    64MB SIMM for LC475 - compatibility

Is there any information available about which 64MB SIMMs may work in an LC475? I am thinking about picking up one of these: (eBay link)

    New Project: Prodigy 040/060 Card

That’s what I tried to warn OP above. The current design will foul the RAM slots on LC475 and Quadra 650/800, and a Nubus slot on the latter.

    PowerBook G4 12” Battery Re-cell possible?

A friend has asked me to re-cell his G4 12” battery. Just wanted to check if there were any gotchas with the BMS before I do this. Anyone else successfully rebuild one?

Power Mac 6500 USB and ethernet cards

In my experience, you are correct about FireWire buses. But the USB bus does show up even with nothing connected.

    New Project: Prodigy 040/060 Card

This is very cool - following with interest. Have you thought about fitment in the LC475 and other models you may want to make it available to? The PCB may foul other components depending on orientation.

    Macintosh SE/30 Triple Threat

You can create and use partitions up to 4GB in my experience. I don’t, because: - it creates some issues under System 7.1 e.g. it can’t calculate free space properly - block size is quite large, about 64K. But if you’re running System 7.5 and above it works perfectly well.

Replacement Power Supply in Quadra 605

My first course of action is to recap, but in this case the PSU was dead - and replacing its guts was the path of least resistance.

Were these machines always so painful? Maybe I'm misremembering, or maybe age hasn't been kind to them.

This is expected, and generally doesn’t work properly. You mentioned USB cards not working and I suspect it’s because you haven’t installed the USB Adapter Card Support package.

Were these machines always so painful? Maybe I'm misremembering, or maybe age hasn't been kind to them.

Two things come to mind here: - a poorly seated Personality card is often the cause of startup type 11 errors so definitely check that. - the SATA card and SSD combo might not be working properly. Compatibility issues between the SSD and the PCI card most likely - the SiI3112 is an old chipset...

    Powerbook RAM expansion card modifications

By all means check your solder work, but having been through exactly this situation before I can confidently tell you that it's just as likely to be one or more failed RAM chips. The PSRAM that these use are very prone to failure unlike ordinary DRAM, for some reason, and they don't like too...

    Powerbook RAM expansion card modifications

It's not that simple. Only one in every four chips will have common I/O pins. The I/O pins are data inputs/outputs and there are eight on each chip. However, since the 68030 memory bus is 32-bit, four chips are needed in each bank. That means you need to find a chip in another bank which...

2 new Samsung Wallstreet 256MB memory modules, only showing 128MB each

It is indeed getting harder to find cheap PC66-133 SDRAM, whilst supply for early DDR RAM easily still outstrips demand.

2 new Samsung Wallstreet 256MB memory modules, only showing 128MB each

Not great, no, since I picked up a couple of compatible ones for around £10 only a few months ago. You’ll need 16 ICs on each module i.e. 8 on each side, so those don’t sound compatible. I didn’t realise it was, but it probably has something to do with AI data farms. Still, I don’t see how...

2 new Samsung Wallstreet 256MB memory modules, only showing 128MB each

It’s a hard addressing limit of the memory controller, so no way to get around that.

2 new Samsung Wallstreet 256MB memory modules, only showing 128MB each

You have a couple of options here: - find low density 256MB RAM modules with 8 chips on each side (preferred). e.g. Crucial CT32M64S4W7E.16FGYU. - get 512MB modules, which should be recognised as 256MB each.
