    Two G4s in a beige!

It certainly looks like an impressive upgrade. Presume a Yikes! G4 ZIF is the only option but a lowly 400Mhz unit should clock up to 466 - should. Wonder if the drop-in CPU runs without backside cache?

    OrangePC Card on IIfx

I doubt it, but I'll try on mine one day - onboard subsystem would be ISA based not anything like VLB.

Newly recapped Powerbook 160, screen artifacts or typical passive matrix?

Very normal for PowerBook passive matrix, there should be some graduation of brightness on the dial; give it a good clean with solvent cleaner or maybe the aging CCFL that's all you get before it flickers off. Being released a few years later the PB150 passive matrix display is of a better quality.

2009 MacBook Pro Found at Thrift Shop

Yep my wife uses a 2013 27" iMac and super happy, takes a bit of work needs an SSD but RAM is cheap. OpenCore supports all hardware and Sonoma 15.5 runs happily on it still. The older iMacs which have lesser GPUs do struggle though, or the models that need a better GPU installed. From my...

Heat sink for PCI dos card.

Most of the time it was the same VRAM, yes but check data sheets just in case and make sure the same speed or less.

Heat sink for PCI dos card.

L12 is an inductor, purists will scoff but I would cannibalise the same component of similar dimension from a junk piece PCB, as it will be a low rating whatever it is. Cap looks like it was knocked off (compared to corroding itself off), a quick enough replacement. Also deep clean the board...

Transwarp GS: how to remove WD65C816 CPU from this deep socket?

Hi For future reference I finally worked out to dislodge the 65C816 CPU from this deep socket. The top lid may unclip but is very fragile so don't go there. Hot glue on top to lift it did not work. 1. Lubricate socket with some solvent cleaner/Deoxit/penetrating oil, leave it to sit for a...

Abaton Hand Scan SCSI Interface + Accel SC scanner

Try to find an old version of VueScan which purports to work with nearly all scanners including SCSI (later versions for OS X and Windows 10/11 still do SCSI!), there is an older Mac OS 8/9 version here: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/vuescan-7664...

    Ice Technology iCube Speaker System

They look fun, nice find, I'm guessing the Mac logos are not licensed and the same speakers were sold in beige in generic PC stores and markets. Lots of PC ATX cases shared the same colour swashes in the early '00s. In Australia these speakers were often sold under the name "Juster"...

Pismo Mac OS X 10.4.11 Orinocco Silver drivers?

Apple Airport cards were cheap (HK sellers used to have them for $10) but not now, Orinoco cards can be picked up cheaper. Many have external antenna input too for better range

    Recent excavations

Noting the cryptic nature of the posts, this being a publicly searchable forum, was there anytbing else hidden in the hqx files? Recall a similar issue some years back where sharing of files on 68KMLA and another unrelated vintage computer forum was a seemingly a front for other activity (I...

    Mac Classic II analog board

Welcome thecaver, Check voltages at the floppy connector; it will need a complete recap of the analog board + motherboard (cap goo can go like honey also needs deep clean of the board). Then replace QP1 - CNY17G, TDA4605 and IRFBC40 (optoisolator, power control and MOSFET respectfully) usually...

MODTracker audio replay on early 68k macs

This is great, can't wait to try it out on a lowly Mac - is it for 4 channel .MOD files? Yes, the Mac hardware is close to the Amiga/Atari but the sound is much simpler and slower to move in and out of RAM hence why system requirements on a Mac were slightly higher. See the IIGS @ 2.5Mhz with...

Heat sink for PCI dos card.

Any sort of low profile heatsink with long thin spines would do (like the later Intel Socket 370 heatsink or something for Socket A). I'd use thermal heatsink tape to hold it in place, but wouldn't trust just this to secure it. You could perhaps fabricate a wire like the stock unit to clip the...

    OrangePC Card on IIfx

The OrangePC (290) has a Western Digital WD90C30-LR graphics chip, I used this driver for Windows 3.1 for mine: https://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=820&menustate=0 There are a heap more alternate drivers here for the WD90C30 graphics chip, most ended up in "Paradise" branded cards...

    What is this Mac card?

Nice card, didn't know they were on MDDs, but some searching suggests it was only in built-to-order units for an extra $300, over the stock Radeon 9000. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1874098?sortBy=rank Radeon 9700/9800 are notoriously unreliable cards, usually from inadequate cooling...

Concept: MacintoshX - Game like its 1991, compute like its 1986!

Sounds cool, am a Sega fan however think I'd prefer a $50 Megadrive and a $100 vintage Mac doing fun things next to each other. Also, everyone, I'm having a party. But it's at your house, you pay for everything and do all the work. But I've done the invites using AI.

Windows 3.11 for Workgroups has both settings for 32-bit File and Disk Access, see link below you can try to enable 32-bit Disk Access by editing SYSTEM.INI (if it doesn't work put it back). Mate, it's 2025 and it's painful seeing you work in a 50MB partition; Windows doesn't really like tiny...
