ugh, imagine the infectious medical waste that went through that cleaner … just get a cheap one.

    Having issues with 20HD sticking.

Yes, on the underside of the stepper motor, and left overnight. Mine needed a few drops of oil. Apart from that I'm yet to open mine to see further head stuck/read damage as it is now detected but can't boot or mount. I suspect next step is a low level format using something like Lido over...

    Having issues with 20HD sticking.

Nice setup, doing the same with a 20SC and 5.25” Seagate ST-225N now. Unscrew the drive and lubricate the bearing from the underside with sewing machine oil. Also check PSU voltages while there and recap if needed. The errors - dunno, maybe boot and run First Aid or early version of Norton Disk...

    Powerbook 540c Whitewashed Screen

Ah yep neglected to mention the LCDs all have caps, this looks more like cable issue over bad LCD caps!

    Powerbook 540c Whitewashed Screen

Thanks for video. I suspect it's a combination of two things, failing backlight (CCFL tube) and need to clean and reseat the video cable (both on the motherboard and the PCB it plugs into on the front panel below the LCD). There is also another connector at the back of the LCD. Only one cap...

What are the common failure points on the AV14?

Hi, Are you referring to the Apple AudioVision 14 display? Check for dry solder joints first around the flyback and condition of flyback

    Tips for desoldering corroded chips

Practice on many others PCBs before going near the good stuff ... but you buzz off the corrosion on the metal without going overboard, then try to reflow with flux

    Tips for desoldering corroded chips

I'm finding a cheap handheld engraving pen (or Dremel with pointy file attachment but it's a bit unwieldy) if used delicately is working well to remove corrosion from chips that don't take solder. Others may not agree but I found those fibreglass pens are a waste of money and painful...

Liberating Quadro4 XGL AGP video cards, or wasting time on e-waste

Yeah toasty GPUs were made for a good time, not a long time in that era :) I've a slew of 9700/9800 GPUs that show life and hope to get at least one good working one day. Another was the Voodoo 3, which makes the cards discussed look like icy poles, everyone I came across the PCB was visibly...

    2400c doesn’t boot/freezes at welcome screen

    4. Pull any additional RAM installed 5. Really look it over for any corrosion under magnification 6. Clean the dual CPU connector with Deoxit - this includes both the CPU and the motherboard 7. You can boot the board almost bare with just the LCD, CPU and motherboard connected and a small...

    Macintosh 68060 Redux

And it's brilliant, one of the best an affordable upgrades you could get for an Amiga 1200. There are PiStorm variants for most other Amiga models below the A1200.

Liberating Quadro4 XGL AGP video cards, or wasting time on e-waste

Great post, thanks for detailing everything. I own a Quadro4 980GXL and it came from a house fire, but that didn't stop it it's been going strong in a Pentium-III based system for years. Yet to recap it. Love the card, and confirm every single Radeon 9700, 9800 I've come across has never worked.

Best Hard Disk Environment for Apple IIe?

Go the Booti for ease of use, the software is more than adequate. Again you won't exactly be running a stopwatch noticing any data throughput reduction on an Apple II era computer using modern solutions like these. If you want the best speed and software (similar to Booti), go a CFFA3000.

    Power Mac G5 SSD Woes

You can use any old chunky screw, the ones used on PC cases do the job. Alternately the 3.5" HD will slide in happily there if you don't move things too much.

Best Hard Disk Environment for Apple IIe?

Ease of use = Booti, and performance would be fine.

What to do with a Powermac 9600/200MP

I like to set my Macs up for a unique purpose - eg. pro audio, pro video, PC/Mac hybrid, server ... Reckon yours 9600 MP could be a killer 2D/Photoshop/DTP machine, even better if you source something like a Wacom tablet, TwinTurbo graphics card. Maybe have a G3 card on hand for games?

    Macintosh 68060 Redux

So good to see the 060 that never was before PPC came into the fray - can't wait to see benchmarks and things like gaming FPS. Understand there won't be too many examples in the field, with full 060 prices being so whacked now - even beyond the reach of Amiga users I feel!
