The powders (talcum, cornflour etc) can reduce the stickiness but it will come back eventually. I've found you have to be quite aggressive rubbing off the sticky parts with warm soapy water (and ideally a microfibre cloth), this comes after you have let the parts soak in citric-based "goo gone"...

Clean the RAM slot and connectors thoroughly (electronic solvent cleaner is your friend), I had a similar issue with a 64MB modules in a PowerBook 3400c. Also check part number is for the 3400c not Kanga (G3), which are also at times not fully compatible.

The most compatible SDRAM So-DIMM modules for these were the double-height, single sided modules - have a look around for second-hand modules that look the part. It was very common for random brands to not work in the Wallstreet which is known to be quite picky with RAM.
