That chat cannot be right as well - I *think* I've had 6.0.4 on SE FDHD when I was testing out non-backlit Portable as I thought there was an issue and tested in SE.

Its both 640x480 and 832x624 only showing 256 colours doesnt matter if you have VRAM or not.
As I've confirmed its not the software issue - its hardware issue.
I've washed the logic board and closely inspected the slots - seems to be normal. I'll rest it tonight as I'm buggered

update: Pulled the HDD out and put in Quadra 650 - basically very similar boards - Quadra 650 does show thou of colours on that HDD.
Pulled the VRAM out from Q650 and put them in Q800 - still showing 256 colours. Tried zapping the PRAM - not changed.
Logic board at fault?
I recently got Q800...

I noticed that any systems below 8 is funny with larger than 2gb HDD.
I did have issues with 4gb HDD on other day and decided to format the HDD again to 1gb and problem was solved with DOS compatible as well

PDQ is next model after Wallstreet - Before Lombard, they came in as 233, 266 and 300mhz.
Correct that Lombard is first model without floppy.

I am using PowerBook G3 PDQ 300mhz with MacOS 8.6, MacOS 9.2.2 & OSX10.2.8 with internal 44pin to SD. (much faster than CF)
It has (interchangeable);
PCMICA Firewire/USB Card.
Internal Floppy which can write 800k/1.4mb
VST ZIP250
SCSI port for external HDD ie. SCSI2SD etc
I think that...
Do a small test - get IPA on cotton bud, and give it a small rub - if something comes off then you know something isn't right but if it doesn't then its the coating.

Sounds like the PSU has done it - its not a easy one to re-cap the PSU - also its a common issue.
IIsi needs recapping anyway. Ive just recapped 2x IIsi's to 100% recapped, works really well.
