CompleteSet - a resource for vintage Mac collectors and enthusiasts

The third and final portion of CompleteSet is now live, the "Documentation" category: This portion has been the trickiest of the three to pull together, and still needs a lot of work to fill in missing information. If you own a complete G3-G5 system and are willing to contribute information...

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Great, will try that once the replacement mobo arrives. I'll obviously be hanging on to the original mobo and will try to have it fixed up sometime in the future.

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Thanks; yeah if it's also damaged probably wouldn't be of use. I think I have a lead on a mobo from someone on Reddit but still TBD. I don't actually see any visible damage on this board and I also definitely wouldn't have the skills to repair it anyways, so a replacement is just gonna make...

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

So I've been going back and forth with the seller, and they have suggested that I snip off the plastic clips on the cable's side of the connector (thereby making it non-directional) and hook it up. Does anyone see any problem with that approach (@GRudolf94 ?) I can't see why it wouldn't work...

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Looking at this listing side-by-side with the one I purchased, they appear to be identical. The date/time stamps on the photos are even the same. So it's bizarre you received one that worked and I didn't! So yeah I'm not gonna be buying another one of those, for obvious reasons. What a...

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Would you be willing to link the one you purchased? I don't see anything else labeled as LT121SU-123 for sale by this seller. Sent them a note about this, we'll see what they say. What a mess

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Thanks very much for this diagram. I find it absolutely bizarre, and incredibly frustrating, that any manufacturer would produce panels with the *exact same model identifier* but with this one connector flipped the /opposite direction/. WTF? Thereby causing the machine to literally become...

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Ok. Thanks for the info. Figured something of that nature. To make sure I'm communicating clearly - I didn't install the connector backwards, per se, I just installed it the only way that it would physically fit. Which seemed like it was specifically designed so as to NOT cause any issues...

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

The replacement panel arrived today, was actually pretty quick (only about 2.5 weeks to get here). Original panel (top), new panel (bottom) I went to install it and the only significant difficulty was the fact that the display connector was upside-down on the new panel. The connector is...

CompleteSet - a resource for vintage Mac collectors and enthusiasts

Yeah absolutely, it's probably something that most people won't need very often but when you need it, you need it.

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Yup, it is just a LT121SU-123. That'll teach me to take the thing all the way out first, lol. Replacement panel is ordered ... will follow up in a few weeks with the results.

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Thanks, this is helpful. So mine is a Samsung panel but does not appear to match any of these, I see a label of LJ96-00030A and a 121SU121. I presume the number below the barcode is the serial no. Are either of these numbers the part number I need to look for?

    iBook G3 Clamshell vinegar syndrome

Well, the dreaded day has finally arrived. Pulled out my beloved Key Lime to find the beginnings of vinegar syndrome. It's really hard to show on camera, but there's a clear oblate-shaped zone of diagonally-oriented lines and discoloration visible when the LCD is on. At present there is only a...

CompleteSet - a resource for vintage Mac collectors and enthusiasts

Today I am launching "Phase II" of CompleteSet, the "Accessories & Peripherals" category: I got good feedback from folks over email and elsewhere online from "Phase I" (software discs), and I've incorporated this feedback into the construction of this second phase. I thank everyone for your...

Thanks, and yes by all means feel free to do so. The more we can do to get people the information they're looking for, the better.

    G4 MDD (3,6) Power Cable

Cool, thanks, I have updated the info with PageMill. That's the same packet (materials, anyways) as the Rev Ds and the early slot-loaders so I combined them all together. Very interesting that the Rev Cs also shipped with the yellow binder that the Rev As and Bs did; would have thought it'd...

    G4 MDD (3,6) Power Cable

Great, I have updated the entry with those discs. Do you also happen to know if it also shipped with MDK or Adobe PageMill? If so, that would be the same as those that came before and after. I also still need the part number for that packet (overall), but doesn't sound like we have that here...

    G4 MDD (3,6) Power Cable

Thanks, that is good to know re: your Rev. C and is also consistent with what I have at present. Rev. B iMacs did not ship with OS 8.1, but rather OS 8.5. This is indicated on EveryMac and I also personally have one where this is indicated on the original box etc. See CompleteSet for more...

    G4 MDD (3,6) Power Cable

Cool, thanks. I've also seen a lot of disc sets where only one of the discs, sometimes even a random one (e.g., restore disc #3 of 7) has a Z/1Z/2Z prefix, so I guess that is for stuff where only the materials on that disc are impacted. Could you articulate more about why there might be...

    G4 MDD (3,6) Power Cable

Interesting, thanks for sharing. This is certainly one of these cases (of which there are plenty) where it's likely impossible to place it on one side of the fence or the other (rev B or C) without definitive knowledge from the original owner as to what system it shipped with. Also, since it's...
