Well, I borrowed a managed switch, manually set the port to 10Mb - 1/2 duplex. Still no dice. I found an AUI adapter for a couple bucks. Hopefully that will solve it - I should be able to set the "autodetect" jumper to AUI-only mode on the card, then.

As of this spring OWC (macsales.com) was selling 512MB simms for $14 each. PC133 for the G4s but it should work fine in a B&W. I don’t think I’d be looking at used stuff on eBay if that’s still available.

Digging around in the recesses of my brain here but 1.4MB floppy drives and LocalTalk used to both be good for a shade under 30kB/sec so it’s probably about the same speed as the floppy drive, if not faster. Totally usable and an appreciable upgrade over swapping 400k disks all day.
