TashSync: Macintosh Video Sync Signal Converter/Generator

I'm really quite pleased with myself for the design of these boards, everything fits together so neatly. The bulk cap even snaps right in between the DIP socket and the DA-15 so the leads don't need to be bent to retain it while soldering it. Once I'm satisfied with the firmware, I might even...

TashSync: Macintosh Video Sync Signal Converter/Generator

OKAY! Finally finally, the final (at least I hope) PCBs are here. I'd like to send a few of these out for testing... The perfect candidate would have: A II-series machine with a Toby card, a IIsi/IIci, or both A decent-sized collection of VGA monitors that are known not to work with the...

Anyone have a copy of "AppleTalk Phase 2 Protocol Specification" (C0144LL/A)?

If memory serves, PNTG is MacPaint...

Anyone have a Powerbook 100 and a Floppy Emu?

Thanks! I have updated my compatibility matrices accordingly.

Anyone have a Powerbook 100 and a Floppy Emu?

Nice work! I'd be interested to know the answer to this, too. I thought that the IIx, like the IIcx, required the ROMinator or some other nonstandard ROM for DCD support... and that the IIfx didn't support DCDs at all, probably due to the SWIM being handled by a coprocessor. In any case, I...

Anyone have a Powerbook 100 and a Floppy Emu?

Forgot to update this thread - I have five of the new PCBs that should fit directly into the Floppy Emu and the connectors to go with them - anyone who wants them, please get in touch!

TashSync: Macintosh Video Sync Signal Converter/Generator

That was what I originally wanted to call it, too, but apparently there's some smaller connector that that refers to... can't find the details now, but I successfully confused someone with it once.

TashSync: Macintosh Video Sync Signal Converter/Generator

oh, and, since I'm in a pedantic mood: NO NO NO NO NO What we will do is set the record straight. The second letter in the name of a D-sub connector denotes the shell size, and the B in DB-25 refers specifically to the shell size that contains 25 (sometimes 44 or 52) pins. The Macintosh...

TashSync: Macintosh Video Sync Signal Converter/Generator

Thanks. =D Smol detail to correct with the PCBs, the board is slightly too wide and the DA-15 doesn't sit quite flush with its edge - so it's going to get even smaller in the next and hopefully final revision, after which I'll offer a handful of kits for sale. I'm also spinning a passive DA-15...

TashSync: Macintosh Video Sync Signal Converter/Generator

PCBs are here at last! And parts... mostly. Digikey made a boob and sent me LM358s instead of PIC10F320s. But here, substituting a PIC10F322, it is! That's a 22 µF aluminum polymer cap (used at the suggestion of @cheesestraws in lieu of a tantalum), an 0.1 µF ceramic cap, and a 330 Ω...

Anyone have a Powerbook 100 and a Floppy Emu?

Before we change the subject - who wants the new adapter PCB and hasn't soldered their connectors yet? I'm wondering if I should throw some more connectors into my next Digikey order...

    Cloning the IWM (sort of)

It certainly would be the most straightforward solution from a user's perspective, and it could be incorporated easily into "Mac in an FPGA" type projects. I just don't know if I can actually do it. =) I haven't given up yet, though. True, though the Atmel fitters are also very old and very...

Integrated Tashtari Machine: Floppy Drive Emulator

Well, if I can get the RPi working with PREEMPT_RT as the frontend, you should be able to mount any filesystem that Linux can read. I made up an RPi hat for that purpose and have sent it to JLCPCB to be fabbed, so now it's just ("just") a matter of the software side of things... that'd be my...

Anyone have a Powerbook 100 and a Floppy Emu?

To everyone I sent adapters to, I included some of the new PCBs in my latest JLCPCB order, so if you can stand to wait a couple weeks for them to arrive, I'll be happy to send you replacement PCBs when they come in. Should be pretty cheap, I can probably just send them in a standard envelope...

Integrated Tashtari Machine: Floppy Drive Emulator

While I know they're ultimately just block devices that can have any filesystem on them... I'm fairly sure that the SD spec mandates that they use MBR and FAT for the sake of embedded devices. Is Mac OS not respecting that these days?

Integrated Tashtari Machine: Floppy Drive Emulator

Whoo, long time since I've updated this thread. The USB frontend with the PIC16F1454 did not pan out, unfortunately. I think it behooves me to return to the idea of a more Floppy Emu style frontend, probably targeting the PIC16F1788 and its whopping 2 kB of SRAM. I have the hare-brained idea...

    Cloning the IWM (sort of)

Oh boy, it's been a while since I updated this thread. I haven't forgotten, I promise! It's just that my mental stove has an awful lot of back burners... At this point I'm all in on producing a design that will work with @max1zzz 's ITXPlus board - though, of course, once that's working, it...

Anyone have a Powerbook 100 and a Floppy Emu?

Okay, I've made a new spin of the board that swaps the positions of the two connectors, should have done that to begin with. It's available in my misc-mac-pcbs repo on Github.

Anyone have a Powerbook 100 and a Floppy Emu?

D'oh, I'm a bonehead, I thought I checked that... Victory! I'm so glad to have it experimentally confirmed, I've updated the compatibility page in TashNotes. Thanks again for doing this!

Anyone have a Powerbook 100 and a Floppy Emu?

@David Cook - glad to see that there's an Apple source that confirms that pins 6-9 are +5V, that was my biggest worry in spinning the PCB because it's the biggest difference between the HDI-20 pinout and the standard drive connector pinout... It's understandable that they say the LC doesn't...
