What to buy LC475 or Performa 630

I have an LCIII+ that I bought from new and played Doom and Duke Nukem 3D on. At postage stamp sized resolution. I love that machine - but it seldom sees use these days - although it's been recapped and upgraded as far as it will go. Because… Now I also have an LC475. And, as my son would...

Contest: Most Copies of a Program

You have my sympathies. I think there’s an ointment you can get for that though.

Contest: Most Copies of a Program

Civilization. Every version. Although given that they play differently, and run on different machines, I'm not sure they count as the same software. The same concept, perhaps. It's like claiming that VW have made 37 million Golfs. The original, 1974, car is so different from the car of...

Operation : PewPew! A new game for 68040 and soon... 68030

Back in the dark ages of the 1990s, before I became a full time software developer, I used to work for an Apple Centre* as their PowerBook repair geezer. I went to Apple's training centre in Uxbridge to learn how to service a PowerBook (although quite a lot of the time seemed to have been spent...

Operation : PewPew! A new game for 68040 and soon... 68030

Well, if they're anything like me, maybe they are the source - I have my own floppy discs for Think C (and the manuals) - and I used my own media to install it. If my media were infected then only I could fix it. That said, I have scanned my computer - and it's all clean. And I scanned my...

Operation : PewPew! A new game for 68040 and soon... 68030

It's a good idea to scan everything on your computer with the most up to date virus checker it can handle. I use Virex on my '030 and '040 Macs, and Disinfectant on my 68000 Macs. On my OS X Macs I use ClamXAV. Be paranoid. They are out to get you.

    1bit games with music

So much about those early sierra games was vile. I’ve prettied them up some using ResEdit so that I could enjoy them without wanting to gouge my eyes out - but I’m not sure that I should upload my tweaked versions to the garden. It wouldn’t be authentic. If you’re interested, PM me and I’ll bung...

    1bit games with music

So, I've done a quick test on my Mac SE (no upgrades bar 4MB RAM). Lemmings runs well with music on it.

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

Okay. It's not perfect - but it'll do for now. There may be a future version, depending on the feedback I receive. I'm going to upload to the Garden - and look at Itch or other sites, if nothing else to see if I can raise the profile of the Mac there. It's been tested on a Mac SE (System...

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

I don't think so. The Innecto engine is just for Innecto. Maybe bits of the buffering, I don't know. But we can see with a future game. I just need someone to do the graphics for me. It's not that I can't do them - it's that I can't be bothered to do them!

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

I think it might be ready for a v1 release this week. I'm getting excited. It's even playing with extra fanciness on the 512ke. Still no sound there though - but you can't have everything!

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

No need to bother the doctor - I think that I might have this under control. I nearly have a full release with everything playable, beautiful and in place. We'll have that leg off in a jiffy!

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

Debugging and optimising the graphics so that they're more like the graphics of modern Innecto, and yet still work on original Macs, is turning out to be very difficult. I may give up. But it's not helped by the debugging tools offered for vintage Mac. So I've come up with a wee bit of code...

    Cutomize Apple Menu MacOS 8 / 9?

Yes. I know about those. But I want to have my cake and eat it - I want this functionality to be part of Finder!

    Cutomize Apple Menu MacOS 8 / 9?

I know that this is a bit controversial but I wish that there was a an extension for Finder that gave it a Finder similar to MacOS X. Double clicking on a folder shouldn't open a new window, and column view would be nice too. I suspect that the reason this doesn't exist (except as a separate...

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

Yes. Which is to say, No. But I'll happily work with anyone who wants to create such a beast - especially if they want to make it work on Newton. Or someone who wants to create graphic assets for some of my other games that I'm thinking of for Vintage Macs. Right now though, the new version...

If you could bring back classic Mac OS software, what would it be?

Tetris Max was great. But Wesleyan Tetris was greater!

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

Oh - and I really need to add this to the documentation for Innecto - if you press the option key then the rotation direction reverses.

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

That version still has a bunch of debug in it, and some sloppy wet code for formatting text. There’s still some functionality missing / broken - but I think that I can fix that and bring the size down further. I had a vague idea that I’d like to get it running on every Apple device capable of...

Innecto: A new game for System 7 (68000) and soon (I hope) earlier systems too

Is this a first? Have any other games been ported from modern macOS (iOS, iPad OS etc) to vintage systems? Even if it isn't a first, it can't have been done all that often! In any event, here it is - my game Innecto (which you can read more about here) ported to my system of choice (a Mac SE...
