    Apple 8.24 GC artifacts

I believe 24-bit is always in color, i.e. there isn't a setting for millions of grays. So the control panel just automatically assumes it will be color.

    Apple 8.24 GC artifacts

So it’s a bit inconsistent. I was able to reproduce a similar issue in 256 color mode, only with a very specific desktop pattern. So it's not just black and white. But other than that specific case, the artifacts are gone in 4/16/256/millions of colors. Solid black or solid white desktop...

    Apple 8.24 GC artifacts

Hey all, One of my 8.24 GCs has this odd behavior. In black and white mode, it has these faint blue vertical lines. They disappear when I use higher color modes. Any idea how to troubleshoot this? I don't see any physical damage and most of the components look fine. I tried reflowing the...

Sonnet Doubler Allegro for Mac II

Goodness (drool)! I wonder how much this would have cost back in the day.

Sonnet Doubler Allegro for Mac II

Ahh, thanks for the explanation. It makes sense, and honestly I always wondered why the SWIM chip plays a role in memory addressing. I think the confusion is that some of the literature refers to it as the "SWIM upgrade", which includes the IIx ROMs. So, PMMU alone gives you 68MB, and ROMs...

Sonnet Doubler Allegro for Mac II

As far as I know, the Mac II with a ROM upgrade is still dirty and requires Mode32 regardless. Coupled with the PMMU, it allows the machine to address up to 68MB or RAM. I.e. you need both upgrades to address more than 8MB. I believe you additionally need the SWIM upgrade to get 128MB...

Macintosh II, Logic Board 820-0163-03 630-0140 SIM SIMM Memory Slot Connecter Replacements?

Honestly, even if for some reason the spacing is wrong, I would just cut them apart. The single slots from PE are much more expensive.

Macintosh II, Logic Board 820-0163-03 630-0140 SIM SIMM Memory Slot Connecter Replacements?

Those should work. I used them on a different mac (LCII?) and they were a perfect replacement. I believe all Macs, including the Mac II, have the same spacing on their dual 30 pin slots. PE is probably the best vendor for these parts.

Apple 8.24 GC = fastest 8bit NUBUS card?

Oh, right, bad example. I was mainly referring to the Mac II series (last paragraph). I think I found the benchmark thread I was referring to: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/fastest-nubus-video-card-redux.42495/

Apple 8.24 GC = fastest 8bit NUBUS card?

Correct me if I'm wrong. With most/all other "high-end" cards, QuickDraw acceleration doesn't kick in until 16 or 24 bit color depth. But because of the unique architecture of the Apple 8.24 GC, it provided acceleration regardless of the bit depth. I remember seeing some benchmarks a few...

Looking for Motorola MC68851 PMMU for Macintosh II

I was referring to Mac II, not IIfx. You need PAL RAM for Mac II (in addition to the PMMU).

Looking for Motorola MC68851 PMMU for Macintosh II

Keep in mind, you’ll also need PAL RAM SIMMs, not just regular 30pin RAM. Last I heard, they were unobtanium.

    Advice with SE30 restoration

Might be the photo, but to me it looks like UE10 has a bridge between 40 and 41 (where the bodge wire is attached), and another between 42 and 43 (a solder blob).

    Color Classic VGA Mod Undo?

Yep that was it. Totally forgot about that one. Once I removed the analog board, the big wire jumper was obvious. It's back to normal deflection now and actually usable resolition, LOL. Thanks!

    Color Classic VGA Mod Undo?

Hey folks, Today I decided to "downgrade" my color classic to standard resolution. It was impractical for my aging eyes. My CC was modded using the ribbon cable, so I purchased another stock harness, thinking that would do it. Looks like it worked in terms of resolution, but now my picture...

SE video: almost perfect, but, it 'flinches'. (video = 1000 words)

I had exactly the same issue before (with SE or SE/30, not sure). I ended up reflowing the solder joints on the flyback transformer AND on the neck board connector. All were cracked, and I suspect the neck board was actually the culprit but not 100% sure. The neck board solder joints were...
