They’re socketed - you can lever them out. Can you check continuity on your motherboard fuse - F3 I think it is.

It could be that one of those resistor networks on the hard drive PCB has gone bad, if op has a multimeter they could test them out of circuit. I don’t recall there being a termination jumper on that model.

If you’re cautious: try the DB25 and if that works then get something internal. If you’re impatient: go ahead and order something internal since it seems likely now that the issue is with the Sony hard disk rather than the computer.

Check the connections to UH7 carefully. The footprint on the Reloaded board makes it difficult to solder as the pads are almost completely hidden by the chip, so poor connections are common. Check to make sure that adjacent pins aren’t bridged, too. That doesn’t seem right, the 030 chip hardly...

Isn’t @pax saying that the full 040 card they have originally came from their 550c, but that they moved it to their 520 when they upgraded the former with a PPC card?

Nope, this is the standard display appearance of uninitialized NEC 41264 chips. Other brands show stripes or other patterns. I think so, they’re 5V 64K x 8bit chips, which sounds right to me.

Another thing is, it would be good to know if you’re getting any sad chimes, as would tell you if the ROM is being accessed, but without the speaker jack soldered in, audio won’t get routed to the internal speaker header. So either add that in, or solder bridge the two pads on the underside of...

I did this for my first two boards and it’s a great idea for testing chips, although I’ve damaged a few cosmetically during removal even with a chip puller, so take care with that. The chips need to be very clean before they’re inserted, so that’s one thing to check - one of them might not be...
