My reply was too long, so I messaged @crazyben. For everyone else the short version is lots of flux. U33's plcc's pads are under the chip so I angle the board an inch or two to give me better access to the pads. Small hoof tip. If not enough heat from that a conical.

    Dim patch on SE/30 screen?

Dead mac scrolls was written before all these caps went bad. That's a common issue with monitors, and it's usually caused by a bad cap. When was it last capped?

    SE adopt non-original CRT?

Yeah... I was just about to say the same. Se tubes run at a super low bias on g1 from what I've seen in the past (-36, I believe). I was using a sencore cr3000 to check out a bunch of tubes and had lots of fun figuring out their settings / pinouts (the pinouts I found in references were...

    SE adopt non-original CRT?

When you say your doner tubes are kinda compatible how far off is your heater voltage? I believe the se heater voltage is 12v (which threw me at first since most run around 6.3v). If your heater voltages dont match, you oght be having issues with the gun emmisions.. Also, just to confirm...

Macintosh IIcx slow chimes of death; diagnostic return code 0000FFFF0001.

Not sure its worth all the work, but you could design a transposer to change the orientation/position of the aforementioned upgrade - i.e. socket booster (see pic). Not exactly this... I'm just using the picture to convey the thought process., i'd design something like it to change the socket...

    Apple Touch Top ][

Yeah...I've never seen anything like it before. I haven't had a chance to boot it yet (wanted to go through p/s before power up). Wanted to see if anyone had any insight into it first. The joystick and buttons just go through the 16 pin dip gameport, so they should work fine. I believe the...

    Apple Touch Top ][

I was given this Frankenstein this weekend, and can't seem to find anything on it. It seems to be something made videx. Its a strange beast. Besides the obvious controls on the cover, It also has some other weird stuff inside. It has a videx 40/80 column card in it (not weird), but it has an...

    Sonnet's Tempo Bridge . . .

That looks an awful lot like a molex micro fit connector. This might not be the exact one, but will get you in the ball park. https://www.molex.com/en-us/products/part-detail/436450400

Macintosh IIsi - Issues after boot

I've had tons of problems with iisi power supplies, so i'd tend to agree too. If you have an iici (or model with the same power supple) its plug and play to test with. It's obviously heat related since you're getting 4 mins cold. If it ends up not being the power supply I'd get you a can of cold...

SE/30 Sound and Boot Freeze Issues

Same here... I've seen people drag solder them, but I like to go one pin at a time. To quote Hicks, "Its's the only way to be sure". I use the same size chisel tip, and switch out with a bent conical tip for pads that need a little more heat. For sure! You need to know if there is any...

Logic Board reworking: A Tale of Two IIcx

It would be dangerous for me to be that close to Jameco! Definetly jealous. There are very few places to even drive to get parts nowadays. Luckily, Mouser is normally next day delivery. Great troubleshooting!

I Finally Built My Own Power Mac G4!!

It's a great feeling to finally get that project your working on finished! Congrats! Sounds like you had fun with the wireless!!! I went hard wired, so I never had to address these issues (luckily!). Good info for people wanting to do the same in the future! Only thing left I want to do to...

What spares to keep on hand for SE/30 repair?

I'd add some crystals to the order (all 3). Ive had quite a few bad. I'd also get some video rom and pal sockets..

5400/160 logic board looks ok but seems dead

Here's a visual of the possible shorts I saw on the processor. I'd look at all of the legs up close to verify there aren't any others just to be sure.

5400/160 logic board looks ok but seems dead

Heya Killvore! I'd go back and check your cap work first. It looks like R33 might be shorting to a via, but I'd check them all up close and make sure your not shorting anything. The processor looks like legs might be possibly shorted on one side (bent), and there looks like a solder short on...
