    jt's Random Questions Thread

I thought the Rage 128 did the decoding on an expansion board.. I did get a G3 DT to play DVDs without it, in 10.2, but not OS 9. There's some discussions at the Apple site https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1449934?start=0&tstart=0 and...

    Target mode w/o keyboard?

Thanks Everyone..  : ) I'm just trying to use some of the files from my old machine, on my "New" 09 MacBook... I was just trying to be lazier than, turn it on and hold "T", wait 10 seconds, than unplug the keyboard and get it out of the way.... Yes, a fast network, or Ext. HD, or bigger HD in...

    My Favorite Solder Joint

As far as I know, the HD was only removed once to archive it, and the power connector wasn't pulled off the analog board. If anything, I think it was the vibrations from multiple flights around the world. I got this from the original owner, and know he flew with it a lot in the early 90's.

    SE/30 Start-up time

I'd say do it!! Then your computer will use the HD less for Virtual RAM. Bigger apps. Bigger files. And it's cheap!!

Cool thing I saved from the trash

I think I might be willing to sell this..... What would you pay, and, well..... I know that only a few of you would use it... I'd rather sell it to real 68k user for $50, rather than a a profiteer (pirate), for $150....  and than re-sell it as  RARE $400 blah, blah, blah....

    My Favorite Solder Joint

I like that it looks like a exploding volcano.. That was visible without the camera.... C'mon.. WTF Factor... Yeah, I did EVERY point on that board, at 80w.

    Fimbulvetr's finds

I'm sure you're like me, and, one day...... But, yeah, ya need good reflow skills, good magnifier (unless your eyes are more than excellent), air reflow, good flux, good wick, and good solder. My "cheap" magnifier is $200.. Flux $33 Wick $20 Reflow $120 But it's worth it when you fix...

SE/30 Missing HD, Bracket, and LED. What are my options

Surely you must know someone with a drill or tabletop drill press, that can help you. Years ago, I was lucky enough to have a part time job that needed one, and I was able to buy it off them for 25%, when the job was done. At the time, low power ones were $50, and medium presses started at...

    Target mode w/o keyboard?

Is it possible to put a computer into Target mode without a keyboard? I usually use Target mode headless as well. Sometimes it's just annoying to connect everything... even if just for a few seconds.

    Fimbulvetr's finds

Glad to hear it wasn't worse. I think I saw 30 pin SIMM sockets on Digikey recently..... Or was it somewhere else... Thats If, you wanted to find someone to do a reflow. Movements & vibrations might shake it loose again.

Cool thing I saved from the trash

Did you see the one that Concorde 1993 has FS?  Tons of room on the inside, and pockets all over the outside. It looks big enough to make it so heavy, that it wouldn't be portable. Ha! I don't need one, but if I did, I'd get it for $30.

    SE/30 Start-up time

I just tried using "Hold Option while opening Memory", on System 7.5, on a SE/30, 8MB...... No go... I also tried control, command, Option + Control,  Opt + Cmd,  Opt + Shift,  Opt + Cmd + Cont,...... Still, No go.... I'm just holding keys at random at this point... So, if anybody finds it...
