Suitable replacement cap for C1 512K Analogue board.

Hi, Been looking for replacements for the C1 capacitor for a Mac 512 I recently got.  It looks like someone has replaced it with a 4.7uF cap in the past and this Mac has some slight screen issues (screen bounces slightly with disk access) Found a Pansonic ECWF2W395JA.  Would this be a suitable...

Liberated 2 512ks, couple small issues

It gave the code part way through attempting to boot from the external drive.  I was using an disk formatted 800K. According to Apple the code I got relates to the lack of support in the ROM for 800K disks.  I think it was 0F0004.

Liberated 2 512ks, couple small issues

Hi all, I just added to my growing mac collection with a couple of 512s. One of them has a 400K drive which is totally dead and I think beyond my ability to repair.  I do have an external 800k drive I tried with it but I got a sad mac when I tried to boot off the 800K external which apparently...

Confusion about replacement AC film caps

I noticed that there is a larger filter cap. It looks ok but would it be worth also replacing this in an effort to solve my circuit breaking Mac plus issues?

Flyback transformers - options for replacements

I just thought, will it matter that I have a 240V (Australian) analogue board, it shouldn't matter for the flyback?

Confusion about replacement AC film caps

Thanks Technight, So I assume I can't use the caps that I linked too. The reason for my confusion is that in this other thread it was recommended to replace these caps with 10nF (0.01uF) Met Poly Class X2   X210N

Confusion about replacement AC film caps

Hi again ;) I have a mac plus that trips my house power soon after it's booted. From another thread I found that the likely culprits are the two small capacitors mounted vertically close to the power switch. I desoldered them last night and noticed that they are cracked. The markings on...

Flyback transformers - options for replacements

Hi I have a 512K that has a slight display jitter when the floppy drive is accessed and after being on for about an hour will start a nearly inaudible high pitched whine. According to Larry Pina, these symptoms are of a failing flyback transformer. What options do I have for seeking...

Just got a Macintosh SE, whats the best OS

Thanks alot Scott. I think I've got a partial System 6 disk somewhere at home, hopefully that will be enough to get the system up and running. I don't currently have a way to create floppies from an image file.

Just got a Macintosh SE, whats the best OS

I just picked up an SE from Ebay with a 20Mb hard drive and 4Mb RAM. It's currently running System 7, but feels a little sluggish compared to my Macintosh Plus. I was wondering what the optimal OS is to run on these?

    Cleaning the J1 connector?

I have discovered a lot of oxidation or scorch marks on one of the pins of the J1 connector on my Mac Plus. Is it possible to clean this effectively or should I attempt to solder the wires directly to the analog board?

Recommended tools for working on Compact Macs

Thanks for the link Scott, that will be helpful. I've got all the tools I need to crack the case and I've made myself an anode discharge tool, it was more the soldering side of things that I was interested in. Is it best to completely remove the existing solder from a joint or should I reflow...

Recommended tools for working on Compact Macs

I've done virtually no soldering work in my life but have become interested in playing around with compact Macs. I have 2 now that need some work done on the analog boards, can someone recommend the basic tools I'll need to get started? Obviously a soldering iron of some kind, but Im lost when...
