    Use PowerPC for a week?

I agree with ianj (and Cory). And when I tried to use a Kanga indefinitely it was just flatly impossible given the need to interface with modern networks (of which I am not the administrator).

    PowerBook 3400c Repair Stories

Well... remove the corrosion and see what happens.  If the vias or traces are bad then that poses a bigger problem.  But again - my board did not originally have video, and washing it -scrubbing bubbles and eventually the dish washer- well ultimately fixed taht.

Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride ... 0.096% Octyl decyl dimethyl ammonium chloride ... 0.072% Dioctyl dimethyl ammonium chloride ... 0.036% Didecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride ... 0.036% Inert ingredients ... 99.760% So basically it's various compounds of ammonium chloride and then...

I'll write the ingredients down - maybe you can find something similar.

No... I don't know about in Austria... http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HY51IIM/

Then it's a board problem for sure.  You need to clean the remaining corrosion (pretty much broadly the area between the power connector and the PCMCIA enclosure.  I again recommend foaming Scrubbing Bubbles if that exists in Austria.  That's what brought my board back to life.  But techknight...

    PowerBook 3400c Repair Stories

The short story is that I don't know... I will have to look over all of this but even then that's super weird.  I assume you've tried reseating the cable a bunch of times. One thing I do notice is that in the 6 vias right above the label "U4", at least two still have corrosion in them.  Is...

    OS 9 PC Emulators

Well I'm not going to desolder the EEPROM and I don't want to buy separate hardware.  This costs nothing to try (effectively).  Though I basically agree with you.  I'd be completely shocked.

Eudora and gmail? 7.5.3 will it work?

No. But I'll say very unlikely since these guys know more than me.

How did you install the OS?

Help needed- getting on the Internet (lan card)

My suggestion would be the enumerated list I wrote out above. ("1) Select "Ethernet" in the AppleTalk Control Panel.  Save when closing. 2) Open TCP/IP Control Panel, activate it (click yes when opening).  Make sure "Ethernet" and "DHCP Server" are selected (the latter, unless you want to...

Help needed- getting on the Internet (lan card)

Also, just a follow-up thought, mraroid, I don't have a Network Control Panel on my 7.6.1 install.  I remember that being something optional.  Hmmm, but Wiki says Ethertalk was a standard released in 87 with the Mac II (and possibly SE) that included a Network Control Panel that allowed...

(lol if you're lolling at the page, I tried to use the Register Mac OS link when I first installed 8.5 months ago... no effect.)

Help needed- getting on the Internet (lan card)

Yeah but the first thing I noticed was the absence of mention of the AppleTalk Control Panel.  (Sorry this whole time I've been trying to get a browser for 7.6.1 via downloading from 8.5 - but all of System7Today's browsers except IE5 seem to be bad .sit/.hqx.  That may be my machine, always...

    OS 9 PC Emulators

(That was what I was going for - I don't care if it's in VPC - but in VPC the battery recognition is unlikely, which is what I think you were getting at.  I don't think the software can run on PPC and anyway it's $70.)

    OS 9 PC Emulators

I'm not really concerned with anything beyond trying to run that program on a powerbook.  And I don't think it'll work.  It's just a curiosity.  One that honestly I might look for a technically running but disposable powerbook to experiement with eventually.

Help needed- getting on the Internet (lan card)

I was not misremembering, but I'm not sure what of this exists in 7.5 (I'd guess all of it, but I honestly forget).  I booted to 8.5, restarted into 7.6.  I plugged the AAUI to Ethernet adapter in and it lit up (thankfully suggesting it's plug-and-play).  I plugged the ethernet cable in and...

Help needed- getting on the Internet (lan card)

What options do you have in the Appletalk pane?  Is TCP/IP actually enabled (normally when you enter and then quit the pane - albeit in OS 8 - you have to enable**) and can you see anything in that pane?  [i may be misremembering a failed attempt to import control panels into System 6 on my SE...

    PowerBook 3400c Repair Stories

You should not have a PRAM battery in the machine if it is not working properly (I forgot what this thread was about).  Yes your batteries are in surprisingly bad shape lol.  Well ... if that corrosion was exposed (if there was no green plastic covering the cells) then there almost certainly is...
