    Mac Classic II boot issues

Could be one of many things. Q: Did this Classic II get a recap? If not, time to look into getting that done. Could be an Iffy hard drive or some cap goo messing with the SCSI Chip. Q2: Did you replace the battery? That can do it too. Or run without it.

How to set up a bootable RAM disk on a Quadra with no SCSI devices?

Q: How can you boot off a RAM Disk if the RAM Test before Boot erases all the information on RAM? This makes booting off a RAM Disk impossible. The best you can do here is to boot off a floppy.

    Dead 6100

That CPU's cracked. I've seen this in PIII/PIV PCs, and when the CPU is socketed, replace the CPU, and BAM! It's Alive! Thing is, getting a "new" 601. There are a few members that can replace it as they do SMD/SMT Soldering. You need to ask the experts, most of you know who they are. Not me! I...

    apple SE afterdark password bypass

It's more likely your drive needs cleaning and lubing than a disk going bad. Try it on the new machine and see if it boots.

    SE/30 strange radio interference noise

It depends on where the whine is coming from. On the right side around the Floppy drive slot then its more then likely the hard drive. On the left, then its the transformer, most likely the flyback. BUT if it in the left rear at the air vent, then it possibly your fan. You need to listen...

IDE to SD adapter in a Pismo?

I have been doing this for literally decades... The fastest CF you can use is 400X (200mb/sec), as that it the limit of the IDE/ATA (166mb/sec) bus is. You can use faster CFs but there will be no improvement in the speed. With certain larger CFs, there are no 400X CFs, only 500X or faster. But...

    Macintosh IIcx issues

Mac IIcx and IIci all need their logic board recapped by this time. That's a given. So recap the board first. Then if it does not turn on, the PSU is next. Recapping the logic board fixes 90+% of all PSU Issues with the Mac II cx and iici.

    apple SE afterdark password bypass

Just turning on the Mac SE and then hold down the Shift Key on the Left will (should) make he Mac Boot with its "Welcome to Macintosh" boot window saying "Extensions off" If it does not that means that you have Fool Proof in there as well and that needs to be removed as well. Last resort at...

Metal stand for the monitor of an Apple IIc

Yeah, they do pop up on ebay from time to time. Make sure it has the pin hold down screws with it as many that are sold are sold without them. Ask the seller if he has them and are they being sold with the bracket.

What is the best Apple II to buy?

The best Apple II to buy? The one you have an interest in that you found and have the money to afford it with as many options in it as possible. To some its a IIgs, others, its a IIc+, and then there are the Apple II, II+, IIe's. It depends depends on you.

Apple 2c and 3.5 floppy disk

Which Apple IIc is it? If its a First Gen Apple IIc (I believe its Model Number 4000), then no. This first gen has no RAM Expansion, so if the label is mission, you need to go in and look at the logic board. Later model can but it is specific to the drive you put in. In short, you can not put...

LC and LC II Power Supply Question

I have just as many LCs in my collection. The PSUs on the LC - LC III is usually a Sony or TDK which pushes out 5V @ 3.25A. The LC 475 (and others in that 68lc040 LCs) use a Dyna Corp Inc. PSU which pushes 5V @ 4.75A. One should read the labels on the PSU to see which PSU is in what machine...

LC and LC II Power Supply Question

They are all interchangeable except for the LC 475 (Q 475, Performa 475/476). The LC - LC III PSU is not strong enough to run a LC 475 because of its 680LC40. People have done it and supposively it has worked but later on had issues with the machine. Every time I used a LCIII PSU on my LC 475...

    Macintosh crt related deaths

It depends if you respect the machine and take your time or if you're stupid and try to do a rush job. As for being shocked, in order for it to kill you, it has to travel through your hand, up your arm, around your shoulder, across your chest, THROUGH YOUR HEART, then out the other shoulder or...

    Disk seek noise

From the sounds of it, you must have a 128 or 512K and not a 512Ke or Plus. Depending on the system, usually System 3 or 4, when you access one drive, the system checks the other drive if it is there, usually to access the disk inside. But since there is no disk in the other drive, one of the...

iBook SSD partition drama - MediaKit reports partition (map) too small

Much easier to have used Firewire Mode and copy the drive with CloneCarbonCopier. This would have updated the partition Map without all the hassle of deleting files.

Apple 2c disk drive leaking something??

A cut in the cable? How did that happen? That cable is short as it is! I can tell you some horrid sabotage students did to their lab's machines I had to fix for the district, including an entire Apple DOS Manual some brat thought they can put in one page at a time! The drive still worked but it...

Apple 2c disk drive leaking something??

Yeah, what is the drive doing and not doing? The IIc Drives tend to be a bit more robust electronically then the older ones. It's usually mechanical failure that kills it. So again, what is it doing and not doing? Demagnetized the head, clean it with a q-tip and alcohol and check the felt pad...
