Don't believe everything you read on the internet - the Classic is awesome, no matter what anyone says. Make sure you're using system 6 and not 7 for a speedy and enjoyable experience.
There is probably a better answer, but for starters if you're using system 7 it should say on the "About this Macintosh" page (from Apple menu) the model of the Macintosh that you're using. Also - the backs of the Classic and Classic II are different. On the back of a Classic II there should...
Thanks for the responses. I had seen a bunch of those webpages when searching myself, but it is a comfort to be redirected to them by people who know more and still trust the websites. One more thing I'm not clear on - Will I have to resedit system enabler 065 or will it automatically work at...
Somehow I'm pretty sure I managed to score a working LC575 motherboard with an ethernet card onboard, and it is supposed to arrive in the mail later this week! It has been a dream of mine to get the CC on the internet for email, wikipedia, etc. but now that I've gotten the machine to work...
Good point - I was only precise by mentioning that Apple was ready to incorporate such a feature into the Macintosh line by the time of the LC5xx series - the MacTV you mention is simply a modified LC5xx! I was referring to the original post, which was speaking about a Mac 512k, a much different...
I assume that a feature like that would not have been consistent with Apple's desired image for the Macintosh. If you look at all their old ads, they touted it as a revolutionary computer for most business and personal needs, and obviously wanted to distance it from ubiquitous toys and...
Okay - I plugged in the external SCSI, set it to #1, turned it on, put in my System 6 disk and it booted from disk and sees my internal HD but never the external, even on multiple reboots and changing external device ID. What am I doing wrong?
Well I'm assuming the internal HD is on '0' because that's where Get Info says it is. Doesn't the machine try and boot from the highest number SCSI device? That way aren't I bound to have a conflict?
A few weeks ago I got a nice external Apple 2GB SCSI hard disk from a friend. I tried using it with my Classic (running system 6.0. 8) and no matter what device ID # I used (tried 0-7) the drive being on and connected prevented the Classic from booting because it made a sick mac screen and a...
I'm almost 100% sure that'll work. I think you only start to see differences once you get to the motherboards.
No, you can't hack more than 4mb into a SE because the logic board architecture wasn't designed to support it. If you're running system 6, 4mb isn't so bad for most things!
MrMacPlus, you are totally right about Vista - but don't forget that I'm here for the same reason as everyone else. I actually did a lot of my work this semester on my Mac Classic, as much as I could do because its eminently better for essay writing and note taking. When I got my new thinkpad...
Nope, still not working. In "Network" it still has an error switching from LocalTalk Built-In to Ethertalk. Also, all the MacTCP settings are configured, and I rebooted twice, but MacWeb still doesn't recognize any internet- I'm not surprised because of the "network" control panel settings...
Yeah, the screen is usable but really not so good. My question: why does this thing take so long to boot and do things? My 16mhz SE/30 that doesn't use the complicated RISC architecture can boot 7.5 in a third of the time (with extensions) that this can do with 100mhz for OS 7.6 I don't know -...
Equill, I couldn't thank you more. Just when I learned I wouldn't be getting a new logic board, I tried your instructions again and Presto! Worked like a charm. So today it wouldn't start again, but I've learned something - If I want to use my CC any given day, I need to take out the...
Beachycove, thank you so much for that link - it's exactly what I need. For some reason, when I complete all the steps (and I was able to find the addresses in my Windows settings) it doesn't prompt me to restart - This has me thinking that something isn't initialized properly. I just...
You know what, I have to plead ignorance. I don't exactly know what any of that stuff means, and I sure don't know how to do it. For the last decade, Windows has been automatically handling all of my TCP/IP settings, so I've never had any experience messing with them myself. Currently I have...
