Crazy question... the vbatt and vmain are looking to be able to draw 2A at 16v. If *someone* were to use a modern 4.5A 16v power supply why couldn't you just tie vbatt and vmain in together to the modern power supply?

No problem. Sure, my goal in creating/posting stuff like this is to hopefully be of help to others, so increased visibility sounds good to me.

So... funny thing is I never got to actually replacing the caps 😬 In buying parts machines to fix up my 5xx PBs I ended up with a power supply with a mostly destroyed case. I ended up grafting its cord onto an adapter box for a new/modern 16v power supply I got off amazon.

I had this behavior on a 540c but in my case it cropped up after I was testing a couple other RAM modules. I had somehow bent a couple pins on the CPU daughter card RAM module connector. One was only off a bit the other was mashed over at a ~45 degree angle. I very gently and slowly bent the pin...
