I have a Power Computing PowerCenter Pro 240.
Can the power supply be safely replaced with a standard ATX power supply of similar ratings?
This machine is a favorite of mine, and I'd like to have a backup plan if the power supply fails.
Hi there - just wondering if you had any success with the PRAM battery rebuild. I have a pair of 5300ce with dead PRAM batteries - I've been hoping someone had found a fix. Thanks!
FWIW - The main case fan in my Quicksilver developed a crack in the plastic of the circular center section of the fan blades. This allowed it to work itself loose from the glue that holds it to the fan rotor underneath. The housing of the fan doesn't allow the blades to fly off into the case...
How about Classilla? It has nice email client built in. I've used it with both Comcast and Microsoft (Outlook.com, Live.com) successfully, though not for a year or so.
The developer (Cameron Kaiser) mentioned it in an article a few months ago. As I remember, Classilla is not dead and there are some simple updates that he'd like to do at some point. Classilla is a lower priority for him than TenFourFox.
I'm a bit of a tin-foil hat type :)
So, I like to install Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, and HTTPS everywhere.
I like to poke around on Gopher now and again too, so OverbiteFF comes in handy.
$50 sounds about right and the more that is included in that price, the better.
Mine came with a fantastic Targus bag built for the 5300, and the internal power supply module for the expansion bay that allows you to bypass the notoriously fragile AC power connector in the back. Throw in a...
I'm a big fan of the Powerbook 1400 - I have two of them in my small collection with 4 or 5 parts machines stashed away as well.
So, a couple of weeks ago I logged into eBay to look through the Vintage Computing section. At the top of the list of items recently added was a listing for a...
So, I walked into my local thrift store last Saturday, and I spotted it from 50 feet away - a 17" Apple Studio Display... one of the clear plastic LCD models with the ADC connector. The tag said $25 and I said, "You're coming with me." I always liked the design of these... all that swoopy...
There's always eBay, but in my experience prices are always a bit too high, and then there's shipping.
One other consideration - I've purchased a few lots of miscellaneous software on floppies in recent years, and I've run into more than a few older floppies that are corrupted or degraded to...
You'd need a docking SCSI adaptor to mount the Powerbook in SCSI target disk mode. The docking adaptors I've had (mainly made by APS) have a switch to allow the adaptor to be used to connect external SCSI drives to the Powerbook, or switch to allow the Powerbook to mounted as a SCSI disk.
Thank you! The battery really surprised me, and I'm trying to keep it going as best I can. Ethernet has been easy, and surprisingly snappy, with a Global Village modem/ethernet combo card. I had the Global Fax software and the ethernet driver squirreled away on a ZIP disk somwhere and got the...
I've been pleasantly surprised by what I've been able to see with Netscape 4.8 on my Powerbook 1400 (OS 8.1). I've been hunting around for sites that provide information I usually look for (general information, news, Mac-related sites, and some others) that will render such that a normal...
Took a trip to my local thrift store a few months ago as I usually do a couple of Saturdays a month. Their electronics section usually good for something interesting, though not as much these days as that they no longer accept computers. On this particular day, the shelves were pretty bare...
