I wouldn't delete the preferances; it might be either impossible to reconstruct them if the System software is "incomplete" in some way or another, and on the other hand they might give a clue to the machine's history.
Even the personal files might be worth taking a look at. They might tell us...
It kind of disheartens me when I see people wanting this because it's "cool" and "convenient", when for me it's my only hope of a floppy drive, and I can't have it.
Still, I'd rather have a real drive clunking away, even if this is "cool".
My Performa's floppy drive used to do that. No sound at all.
Then, magically, halfway through a long disk-swapping session it came to life. First a squeak, then a grunt, then a grown, then POP. Out comes the disk!
Just use the drive lots and lots and the mechanisim will free up. Be sure to have...
The real problem is this:
I am using an old PC from around 2002 with a 300-something MHz processor and 225 MB of RAM. It came with XP SP1 on it.
In addition, I'm trying to cram a Wubi installation onto an already-packed 38 GB hard drive.
That is the problem.
I think that was an extension.
But then, how did it manage to ask for a password when you started with extensions disabled? Maybe it was, you know ;) .
Just name the application "Finder", change the type and creator codes to those of the original Finder, pop it in the system folder, and restart.
Much simpler :) .
We've got two PCs as well. One's a familly machine; the other's the old familly machine which has become mine recently.
My one's got Linux on it as well now |) .
Hi!
As part of a project, I'm trying to find a way to work around the "clock not set" message when booting my Mac with no battery. My current solution is to write a small extension to set the clock to a more acceptable value (such as January 2013) before the box comes up.
The extension seems...
I too like the small, discreet size of the standard keyboard.
I don't have a problem with the arrows. Most of the time I reconfigure games to use the z, x, @ and / keys like they used to before we had arrows, and even when I do use the arrows there's no problem.
But I was actually reffering to...
Just try redownloading the System 1 disk images from Apple (if they've got them, that is :) ).
I just remembered that I've also got a System 1 disk image, but on second thought I think it was the one which came in the floppyemu download (I downloaded it when I was trying to make a 1.44 MB...
I would try this if I had the tools and I hadn't wrecked it with my last repair attempt.
I'd also be curious to see how well this works with the higher capacity drives like my 160 MB one.
I agree! I've yet to find someone else who agrees with me on that point :) :approve: !!!
Looks like I'm the only one around here who actually likes that keyboard... :I
