My 700MHz iMac G4 with 512MB of ram can't even do youtube anymore without copying the URL to VLC. Which even that, not all video's will work with. :-/
But that's why I use it for strict iMovie editing. Very solid.
You could use it as extra processing for re encoding videos and such. Or as a remote iTunes player.
Or extra processing for someone else. Check out Folding@Home.
Some laptop ports are underpowered, by my guess to save power when you use them on battery. I had this issue when i got an iPod Touch and I only had my iBook 500Mhz with me and it simply would not sync.
If you have say, a spare 6GB or something, install os x to that and then get OverDrive installed/turned on so you can then get drives bigger then 128GB in there.

I've taken mine out because its a pain in the butt to keep taking it in and out every time you work on it. It works just the same, same with a clamshell i had a couple years ago.
