I managed to get an as-is PowerBook 140 for $35 shipped, seller reported it dead, but with my 3a PowerBook adapter it does power on and boot from the hard drive. The only issue it has is a very dark screen that brightness and contrast adjustment does not affect much.
The lights are good, and...
The first step will be a recap, but I don't foresee it doing a whole lot, everything else starts up and works without issue, the hd just won't do anything. I'm thinking a rotted via or trace somewhere due to c36 spewing everywhere.
Parts unit unless I feel the modivation to dig into the logic board like my Portable and sort out the hard drive power issue. The case is all painted silver with blue accents and the screen has "rot" in the center from improper storage.
I went to the electronics recycler yesterday and found an Amdek video300 monitor sitting on the clearance shelf. When I asked how much they said it was five bucks. So we plugged it in to ensure it powered on , and it did! The kid (17 years old) at the countersaid that since it showed no other...
I didn't have any luck finding them on his page either...
I went to an locally owned Ace Hardware here in Boise to get some keys cut for work and found some brown 3M replacements though! $4 for three sets (12 total)! If anyone needs some and is having trouble finding them let me know via pm!
This would be my second PowerBook Duo 230, which I obtained from eBay for a mere $15, sold as-is for parts, as the previous owner could not get it to power on. My guess is they did not have a working power supply for it.
I originally purchased this with the intent to replace the painted case of...
Turns out it's the scsi power circuit or something related. Put the same drive in another duo 230 i got off eBay for cheap and it works fine. Looks like it is now a parts unit. The eBay duo 230 is in much better shape, just swapped out the 4 mb ram card for my 14mb card and swapped the power...
I managed to finally get myself an Apple //e, but it is missing three of the four feet. I did some googling and found some references to a Radio Shack item, but the website comes up with nothing, even using the mentioned part number. Home Depot carries clear vinyl feet similar to the factory...
My 230 was in a box in storage for the longest time, I'm assuming I must have placed a heavy box on top of it at some point in time and messed it all up. That's what I get for being sloppy with my computer storage in the past. :( I'm much more careful with things now!
There is a via centered beneath C36 which goes from the positive lead of C36 to either Pin 1 or 4 of VR4 on the other side of the board. There is also a via, center bottom, beneath C36 that is not connected to anything on top or bottom, but rotted.
So I pulled out the Duo 230 today to test it's operation, and it chimes, screen comes on, then the speaker starts squealing and it shuts down with the smell of burned electronics. This started happening around the time the hard drive would spin up.
I removed the logic board and connected...
lol techknight.
Sounds good! Need to pull out some of the Apple II software I have and do some testing for functionality of everything. Need to brush up on my Apple Basic!
The issue I am having, is, with the card installed it won't boot to a prompt. It will display "Apple //e" but not cursor/prompt. If I remove the card, it will boot to a prompt and allow user input.
