I have two partitions on my 2400c, so I did some experimentation by booting off of the second partition. First, I tried making a minimum OS 9.1 system folder by copying the main system folder and deleting anything that didn't seem essential, but I still had freezing if I booted into it with...
I was trying to narrow down which extension might be the problem, but couldn't seem to pin it down, so I tried rebooting normally but with all of the extensions in the Extensions (Disabled) folder. When I try to copy a file this way, it still freezes, even with no extensions. What else does...
I didn't think to try this before, but booting with extensions off lets me copy things to my 16GB card with no issues. So I think I'm looking at an extension issue (which is kind of relieving). Any ideas what it could be? I'm just running what the machine came loaded with, so I would think it's...
When you talk about the "original" notes being on the Newton, were they stored as e-ink or just text? Seems to me like a copy of the text would be just as good as the original if it was just text. You could even recopy them to the Newton if it being on the Newton is important. But I guess I'm...
They are both by Buffalo. The wifi card is an AirStation card (WLI-PCM-L11GP) and the USB is the IFC-USB2CB.
Regarding the freezing while copying to PC cards, I have found that I can actually use an 8 and 16MB CF card with no problems, but it doesn't like my 340MB microdrive or 16GB CF card...
I recently got a PowerBook 2400c (from eBay but I think the seller may be a member here), and I've had a few issues with it. It has apparently had a Cardbus mod performed on it to allow the use of various PC cards, but I haven't had a huge amount of luck with them. I have a 802.11b-based network...
I got a couple of “for parts” Lombard PowerBook G3s for around $20 apiece. I’m sort of trying to get one example of all of the major revisions of Apple’s portables, and the Lombard was my first PowerBook, so I wanted one even though I have a couple of Pismos already.
The first one had a...
Turns out the battery does hold a charge and I think I’ve been using it for at least an hour, mostly with the backlight on, and it still has a little left.
I decided to open it up to see if I could fix the hinge problem I mentioned above, and I’m happy to report that I was able to oil the...
I got this "untested" eMate on eBay for $35 shipped, which seemed like a heck of deal. Even included a nice stylus. I figured even if it didn't work, it would be a cool object to have. I had a couple of Newtons many years ago, so I am still kind of familiar with the OS, but have never had or...
It's a shame the forum can't display these inline, but nice acquisitions! I also got a Cinema HD Display from OleLila. I paired it for a while with my G5 and it is now connected to my Cube.
Thanks, that explains why I have this port on the back with a rattly plastic cover. I didn't realize that it wasn't normally there, but it did seem a little odd.
I bought a 1400c for a pretty good price, but when it arrived I found that it gave me a message saying, "The built-in memory test has detected a problem. Please contact a service technician for assistance." It would boot up okay after that, but would only recognize 56MB instead of the 64MB that...
Are leaky capacitors a big problem with Duos? I honestly don't know, but I hadn't really heard that, at least compared to things like the later compact Macs. I recently got a 230 myself from eBay, and it seems to work fine but has a dead hard disk so I haven't been able to use it just yet. I...
I'm not sure where to start adding to this, since I've bought so much in the last month. But I did get another "non-working" Titanium PowerBook for $12.99 that turned out to not only be nearly mint, but also only need to have its PRAM battery unplugged for it to start right up. I don't really...
Thanks for the help again, Crutch. I have been having some issues testing this new machine out because it won't normally boot with either SCSI2SD or Floppy Emu attached, so I'm stuck with what I can get on a floppy. However, I did discover completely by accident that if you hold down the mouse...
Hmm, I’m not sure what the answer to that is, but how has battery life been? Also, what version of Coconut Battery are you using? I haven’t been able to find a place to download one that is compatible with Tiger.
Well I fixed the floppy drive but the hard disk may be a lost cause. I can’t even open it up because one of the screws is stripped. Does anyone know if the Radius cards require software like the other accelerator I have?
