Thanks! In this case, it's not RAM per se - I've swapped it out (to just 4 x 1MB with SIMMS that worked the last time I tried them) along with the ROM SIMM.
I'm a bit stumped - is there any way to check the boot process? I have a scope and a logic analyzer...
Edit: there's also no boot chime...
Thanks again to Bolle for putting all the work in here. I have a bit of a problem, though - I moved components from a damaged board over to a new board I ordered from JLCPCB with the bottom side preassembled (minus the inductors, which I shifted over), and all I'm finally greeted with are...
I have an SE30 that I'm resurrecting, but it won't format floppy disks successfully - the format goes through, but verification fails more or less immediately. However, I have another SE/30 MLB - and if I swap it in, the floppy formats fine every time.
I've replaced RP10 with no change - am I...
From that pic, the black lead is ground which corresponds to the square pad as depicted. I guess I'd check both as to whether the LED & wiring is OK and if that drive has a working LED connector to begin with.
I have 8 x 16MB OWC 30-pin SIMMS I'd like to use with my SE/30. Unfortunately, even though they're lower in height than the ROM SIMM it came with, I find that the last SIMM snags consistently on the metal lip of the cage above it as I insert the motherboard and comes loose.
Questions:
- Is...
Thanks! I wondered about this - doesn't the sunlight cause the yellowing in the first place? This drive came to me with yellowing on one side, while the other was much lighter, so I assumed that was what had happened.
So (and I apologize - this isn't strictly a Compact Mac question, but I figured the colors were shared):
I have an Apple 5.25" drive in Platinum, and it's been extremely aged and yellowed by the sun. I figure I have three options to restore the color:
- Retrobrite. This has mainly worked for...
On my SE30, it was the video board attached to the CRT - I was pretty shocked to see dry joints. I realize the Color Classic is a bit different, but it might be worth checking when safely discharged.
So I have a:
- SE/30 with a recapped power supply
- Set of Bolle's boards, including the Turbo 040 and combined network card / IICI slot adapter
- Radius Two Page Display card
I'm not... totally convinced that the Two Page Display card is a worthwhile addition to this combo, but was amused to...
OK:
- so the video/neck board *wasn't* swapped along with the analog board, and works with the loan board - thus ruling out the problem I had
- I presume you've twiddled the contrast control, too
Otherwise, I found the document at https://www.jagshouse.com/classicrepair.html which points to...
It's not clear to me if the borrowed analog board includes a video board too - but if it does, check for dry joints on the original per my thread below.
After resolving the power supply issue with a bad switch (https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/dead-se-30-power-supply-no-fan-no-voltages-at-floppy-connector.39895/#post-430859), I then booted the Mac to be greeted by a working fan and... a continual but quiet ticking sound with no chime and...
Yeah, the fault may have existed beforehand. Few things:
- Are the replacement capacitors of the correct value and the right way round?
- Not sure if it's like the SE/30, but can you check the power supply separately?
Otherwise, you could check the board visually for clues.
Firstly, thanks for doing this, Bolle!
I ordered some boards, and as others have reported, the SIMM sockets don't seem to fit. By playing around with Eagle, I'm wondering if a.) there *is* a standard SIMM footprint, but b.) the Eagle SIMM30 footprint is wrong. For one thing, there's no...
