Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
But shouldn't it be read from right to left? "12••••••••••1" on the sticker. Which means "ID BIT 2", "ID BIT 1", "ENABLE AUTO SPIN" and "SCSI TERM ON" is currently set. Not sure how to set the ID though. Jumper missing on "ID BIT 0" means ID 0 is set?
Edit: found this jumper setting...
I have this 4,25 GB SCSI drive I wanted to try in a SE/30, but for some reason it's not being recognised. I took it from a Performa 6400, where it works. This is its current jumper settings, I just wonder if I need to change them around somehow?
I just installed Netatalk 2.2.6 on a Raspberry but I definitely need to read up on all the configurations. Or do any of you have an example .conf for sharing a folder over AppleTalk?
Yes I installed OT which was required to install AppleShare Client 3.7.2. And I couldn't try 3.7.4 because it requires System 7.5.3 like you say.
But you mean if I install Netatalk 2.2.6, e.g. on a Raspberry Pi (not sure if I can downgrade the NAS), its AFP share will be listed under AppleShare...
I use a Performa 6400 as an ethernet bridge and I can connect my non-ethernet Macs to my NAS FTP without any issues. The NAS also share its content over AFP, but I can't find a way to access the share under System 7.1. In later OS versions it's possible to connect using "Server IP address..." in...
I picked up another SE/30 yesterday, and in this one the 16 MB SIMM's seem to work. 4 x 16 MB in Bank A and 4 x 256 kB in Bank B. As mentioned previously in this thread the ones I received were too thin so I tinned them on one side, but my other SE/30 didn't like them at all. But now I got use...
I have a junk SE/30 that was manufactured as an SE, but later upgraded to an SE/30. Unfortunately, the logic board is beyond rescue so the computer has mostly been used for parts and collecting dust on a shelf.
The other day I found a new analog board and a logic board for an SE. Both looked to...
I replaced the board in one of my Macs, just to try it. Works fine so far anyway. Yeah true, I have no idea if it really is NOS, but it looks unused. But I wasn't really hunting for a new AB, I just stumbled upon it. So I'm happy to have a spare AB! :)
I kept on troubleshooting for weeks without success. It turned out to be the F258s that was the problem. They all had continuity when I measured with the multimeter. I replaced three of them that looked like they were in bad shape, then the computer started! But there continued to be problems...
No, maybe I don't... My initial thought was to use it, just "because it's new"... But now I'm having second thoughts. But the display in this machine has som issues. Quite low brightness with some weird shadowing going on. Maybe it's the display itself that has issues, or maybe the analog board...
I got this NOS Mac SE analog board today. Looks like it is in good condition. Does anyone know if I need to take any precautions with an old, unused board like this? Or can I just swap an old board with the new? Recap it I guess? But other than that? I can see that the trimpots R26 and R27 does...
Thanks for the advice! I'll check the area around the crystal and RTC next time I open it up. The board has previously been recapped and cleaned. But it's quite beaten up after corrosion, cleaning and cap/F258 removal (twice) with the crappy hot air gun... I hope it's just some gunk and that...
Suddenly the clock on my SE/30 is behaving weird. The internal battery was removed after a Maxell explosion, and instead I did an ugly hack and soldered two wires directly to the underside of the logic board and put the battery holder on the outside of the case. And it has worked very well until...
Thanks! About the games, the issue is that they were never updated to work with 32-bit QuickDraw. And 32-bit QD was built-in ROM, post the SE/30 and IIcx(?) models. So I don't think it can be bypassed. At least that is how I have understood the problem. There are a couple of old threads that...
Finally I got RAM bank 2 working on my SE/30. Lesson learned: replace ALL F258s, not just those that look damaged.
And maybe more exciting, we now have 256 colors. I was happy to discover that the Mac had a Radius Color card installed when I bought it. Unfortunately, the card turned out to have...
Finally I received the 16 MB SIMMs today. Unfortunately, but as expected, they didn't work in my SE/30.
Some of them wobbled in specific SIMM slots, but fit better in others. But they are slightly too thin. I tried to tin them on one side, and after that they fitted firmly. But if they...
I had the same problem. It turned out to be that one side of one of the capacitors (next to the sound chips) was loose. After I re-soldered it, the sound worked again. It took several rounds before I discovered that it was actually loose...
No worries at all! I ordered the SIMMs before I read elsewhere that also Bank B needs to be occupied. I should have done a little more research! However interesting that it works for you with 4x16 in Bank A! For the wobble issue I planned to tin the contacts, as mentioned by @Trash80toHP_Mini...
That's unfortunate. :-( I ordered the RAM memory in the hope of bypassing the issues my SE/30 seem to have in Bank B. But it now seems that they still have to be installed in Bank B, which will most likely not work in my Mac. Plus the wobble issue... And as you mention, unfortunately, the...
Oh, that's too bad. I don't think I will bother then, and just put it to storage. Aside from the color bleeding issues, I was a little bit surprised by how bad the picture quality is, compared to modern standard monitors. Screen quality has increased greatly over the last 15 years.
