    Color Classic Upgrade Questions

Tried the LC 550 board with the Presto with and without the VRAM already. Out of curiosity, I tested what would happen if I left the VRAM in the stock board with the Presto installed - it corrupts the video, but it doesn't stop it from booting. Thus, I'm pretty sure that's not my problem.

    Color Classic Upgrade Questions

Hello! Not sure if I should post this in the LC subforum, since the CC is kinda both and this concerns a 550 board, but I regardless figure that this sub gets slightly more traffic so it's more likely to be seen here. :p This is more of a troubleshooting question than a "what should I do"...

    50mhz Daystar Powercache SE/30

...no... ...I have my Color Classic with its ~25MHz 68040, though, which should equate to a 50 MHz 68030, right?  :o) Regardless, Speedometer is nice for standardization (so to speak) of benchmarks; It tests disk separately so you don't need to worry about comparing that aspect impacting the...

    50mhz Daystar Powercache SE/30

Try using Speedometer 4.0! ...if you do that, we could compare benchmarks; that could be fun. :)

    Painted 512k Restoration

Hmm... perhaps a melamine foam sponge (Mr. Clean Magic Eraser)could have/could still help? I dunno, it's probably not the best thing for the plastic, as it is somewhat abrasive, but it might still be a good idea...

Compact Macs: the trouble with Tribbles. How many have you wound up with?

1 - 0 2 - First one was an FDHD SE back around... 2013-ish? 3-  Complete computer-wise? Well, to be fair, the first *mac* I collected was an iMac G3 that I found in one of Dad's offices, sitting unused, so... I guess that, but that's not really a compact now is it :p 4 - either 0 or 1...

    CC VRAM question

I have a 512k VRAM SIMM, as one would use in an LC 550 (I'm still waiting on my 550 board to arrive). If I were to attempt to use it on my CC board, what would happen? Would I be able to use the full .75 MB of VRAM, would I only be able to use 512k, or would it not work/damage the board/SIMM...

Recapped IIci takes too long to fire up

Eh, the IIci is as much of a compact as the G4 Cube/Mac Mini/Cylinder Mac Pro are. :p

Lot of Macs and peripheral too much to count ...

Heh, you should make a post on the Trading Post so we can tell what's up; not sure if I will really want to get something gigantic (since it ships from Slovenia) but perhaps there's something smaller that would be interesting...?  :O

    Color Classic - total restoration

I know we're talking about Analog Boards here, but I want to say something about recapping Logic Boards: if you're gonna be replacing SMT components, I think it's essential that you buy/use a pair of SMT tweezers to help you hold the cap in place while you solder, or at least tack down the first...

Excellent to see! :D Resurrecting a board post-Maxellpocalypse... it's not something that happens often, if you know what I mean. ...and yes, olePigeon is right... Such a cute machine requires upgrades, software-wise and hardware-wise... I promise I'm not just projecting! :p

    3D-Printed Objects

...I've been wanting someone to print a Programmer's Switch for the SE and/or SE/30 for a while now, but even through my (admittedly short-ish) searches, I couldn't find one... I *could* attempt to make one in Blender, but I don't have a reference piece and I don't have a 3D printer here at...

    Evie's Conquests

Hmmm.... $25 for the 550 board, you say? I might just have to get one myself, then... damn. :O Perhaps you got lucky, but I dunno. Side note: I have 7.6.1 on my stock (recapped) CC board with 10MB of RAM. And, I mean... it works, though it's not fast thanks to the CC being slow. It's not...

System 7.1.1 (Pro) vs. 7.5.5 for my SE/30

Well, if you're gonna have patched 8.1 on there, you may as well just go for 7.1.1P 'cause 8.1 is closer to 7.5.5 than it is to 7.1.1P (obviously). That would be my rationale, anyway.

    Macintosh Classic battery disaster

Yeah. Sadly, this board is certainly toast. It'd be far easier to just go and buy a new one... Classics aren't that hard to come buy, luckily. Sorry  xx(

Color Classic w/ over 10 MB of RAM?

Pretty sure a RAM doubler would, you know, double the RAM. :p But yes, RAM compression software could also be at play, but that seems less likely than just having 4MB of Virtual Memory set.

Color Classic w/ over 10 MB of RAM?

My guess would be that it has Virtual Memory enabled, given that "built-in memory" is still at 10MB.

    Mini vMac on 68k PowerBook?

No, it's not really a bug in the program - I don't think it is, anyway, having tested this before. I'm reasonably certain it's just really, really, *really* slow. I feel as if I tested it before and I got it to display a single frame, but if I'm making claims like that I'd better have some...

TechKnight is 100% correct. He really knows what he's doing, though to be fair this particular issue is really common - I, for example, have a disk like yours that has failed similarly, where it worked once, but then it wouldn't work again. Listen to the drive closely when it powers up - does it...
